with the past few updates my framerates have gone from over 100fps to a rock bottom 15-40fps, and the game seems to want to run sound in its default high quality setting. for me risen3d is unplayable right now...

Current version is 1.6.84 dated 11-29-2004 1:21am (there was a slight update for something so there were two .84's).

This version works fine for me with no difference in speed (and I think all the recent versions were ok in the speed department). Could be your risen3d.cfg file got messed up? You can delete this and it will be automatically be recreated.

If you are using XP, make sure nothing else is running that is taking up your cycles. Just press Ctrl+Alt+Del and look at the processes running. There are some programs that can get "stuck" and never end, sucking up cpu time. Look at the performance tab to see what the bar shows. Should be flat on the bottom with a few bumps up and down.

If running Windows98, please reboot the system since it's a fairly common problems with 98 to have it get stuck.

What sort of processor, memory, video card and OS are you using if the problem persists. (and what is the PWAD/level you are testing)
