The Last Ditch

Here it is, I bought Doom 3, fair and square, from a store, and with great satisfaction I might add. Install, sure, disc 1, all is well, disc 2 here's the problem. When it' reading the file pak001.pk4 it just stalls, then after quite a bit of time, it asks me to make sure the file is there. Of course, i did, and the file is there. I took the game and exchanged it twice. The same thing. So, I read on your forum about manually installing. Again, everything was fine until i reached that file. It reads it for a while and then finally says--cannot copy pac001:data error(cyclic redundancy check). Now, maybe i'm mising something cuz' I'm not completly computer literate.. but what is it. Does anyone have any suggestions, cuz' activision have not been emailing me back and I'm ready to cry.
please and thank you.

I dunno. All I can think of is a bad batch.

Ha, I thought of that too... but, when I took it back the second time I went and bought it at a different store for the third time. There's a chance i guess, but a small one.

just tried reinstalling windows. Still, wont install. I'm pulling out my hair here. It's that one file "pak001-pk4", it just o\wont read it for some reason, but how could it be a bad batch if i got the copies from different stores? I'm gonna email activision again, maybe they'll write me back this time.

I'd say it runs even deeper than windows goes. I'm talking some really tehnical stuffage here. Maybe D2H knows something about this stuff.
Another thiing that may help, check the discs and make sure they're clean. You may not think this but even some grime on the discs can hamper an installation. Happened to me with one of my games. If it's an individual file, scan it for viruses, maybe it's corrupted somehow.

What OS system are you using? The game is designed for win2000 and XP. If your using something else then that could be your problem.

Sounds to me like a bad CD ROM drive. Do you get errors on other games...cds...?
What are you system specs, as best as you can tell me.
Operating System
Video Card
How fast is the CPU
RAM...etc.
