I just noticed it looks kinda like the shapes of earth:p

Nice pic but I don't think it looks better embossed. It's a planet seen from a distance so it doesn't need to be that detailed.

I think you should emboss the grey as texture and leave the red as clouds, otherwise you need to add transitions between the 2 types of areas. Also the glow around the planet is kinda weird since it stops at the bottom (it's not a circle). Like azriel said, as soon as you emboss make it light so that it doesn't look like a giant stone;).
Also you need to add more colors to the red since it's all kind of repeating (use color balance to create certain lighter and darker areas to achieve a better effect). Also when creating a starfield try to add some glow fromt he red areas like the sun has (flares and stuff) to create an effect to make the planet look like it is scorched. Try to add white clouds cause of the vapour that is being created when water vaporizes;)
Good start nonetheless, but since this is an area I'm rather good at when coming to digital art i'd have to give some critics:p
