Anyone here into true metal? I'm talking thrash/death/grind/black/heavy/classic/goth metal....Well I've never heard goth metal before, but hey, anyone around here like their metal?
By the way, I mean true metal in the sence that nu-metal is not metal. Slipknot is tame and not heavy whatsoever. Marylin Manson is not metal. Just a fucking poser. Korn is not metal. I fucking hate nu-metal.

Well...seeing as it's the only genre I listen to, ya damn skippy I'm into true metal! :D
Some of the nu-metal I can tolerate as long as it's in small doses. :)

Which bands are ya into?

It easier to list what I'm not into...Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Tantric.
If I think of anymore, I'll put them down.

Oh yeah pretty much of what I listen to is metal, though Ido like to listen to classical, jazz fusion, and rock music too.
Eh, this could take a while to list what I do listen to and I'll forget some as I always do when people ask me what bands I'm into but it'll give a good idea of what is in my collection.
Children of Bodom, Megadeth, old Metallica, Nightwish, Vader, Red Harvest, Sonata Arctica, DragonForce, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy, Testament and plenty more but I don't have all my collection with me at the moment so that's off the top of my head and it covers a fairly good range of metal.
I think though you tend to find most people here like metal, punk, rock and some electronic music and a bit of the decent pop too. Some of them like some of the bands you listed, I know my brother likes MM and he's here but he's into a lot of the same bands as I am.

I'm a pretty big MetalHead.
Been getting into Dimmu Borgir lately -- great stuff. Also found a kickass black metal group out of Holland not too long ago, called Occvlt. Also a big fan of Old Man's Child, Children of Bodom, Testament, (old) Metallica, and tons of other stuff. I love music in general, but primarily extreme metal (Thrash, Black, and Death).

Good to see :). I saw Dimmu Borgir live in June, good show. I would prefer more of their older stuff though...
Anyone like their SLAYYERRRRR?!

Dream Evil is great
In Flames is one of my favorite metal bands, I have recently gotten into dimmu borgir, it's pretty nice for playing doom :)
And rock on ben2k9, Zepplin is awsome. *thumbs*
But no, I don't like slayer . . .

I'm not a big fan of Slayer, weirdly I've somehow gone on through listening to metal and not heard a lot of their music! I like South of Heaven, I'm learning it on guitar and then hopefully later after I've got that down I'll go and learn some of the simpler (If that is possible!) Children of Bodom, tuning depending as I wanted to try Angels Don't Kill but it's in C tuning, 2 steps down from the E tuning I'm in so that would mean a fair amount of work to do on my guitar to get it set up for that and then I wouldn't be able to go back to E without doing all that work again. I really need 2 guitars for that sort of thing, 1 in standard and one to muck about with on really low tunings.

Marylin Manson is not metal. Just a fucking poser.
My my, how wrong you are. never heard of industrial metal? Gothic metal? You need to do some research. And he's not some new crap, he's been around for a while.

But he's become a poser, he's right with that statement. He was way cooler back when he didn't try to be so creepy.
He's too artificial in his style, it just doesn't seem to be his true self. And some interviews I saw even fortified my opinion. The evil anti-christ, taking care for his mama's puppy... doesn't fit at all, sorry. His music isn't the worst, but he is just a lame goth-show-off.
Btw, if you're looking for good Gothic Metal, be sure to check out Paradise Lost's "Icon"! And some discs of "On Thorns I Lay". Or some of the newer Tiamat albums, since "Wildhoney" they just got better and better!

Yah I'm not a big fan of him, no offense Ninja, but the whole image thing has got to be a bit of a parody almost I think and really he doesn't seem quite so shocking to many people now excpet maybe for some of the prudeish ones who think all rock and metal music should burn in the pits of hell along with the fans and the musicians! I know you're going to probably give me a thumping for that when I get back but eh, hey you don't like all the music I like. *smirk*

I like true metal. The only Nü Metal I like is System of a Down. I think they have a quality that sets them apart from the rest.

Think....If Marylin Manson did not have that image upon himself, would people still think of him as this extreme metal guy? Of course not. That shows how much image matters with Marylin. It's not heavy. Metal is about the intensity of the guitars. Marylin Manson lacks that. I do know of industrial stuff, not a lot though. The stuff I've heard is heavier than Marylin Manson.

System Of A Down kick arse, they arn't really nu-metal but are lumped with them because they are popular and from the same era.

First off, Manson was shock rock, then industrial, and now he's numetal. Secondly, I'm into all types of metal ranging from AC\DC to Pantera to GWAR to Dokken to Imperanon to From Autumn To Ashes to 45 Grave.

I'm not saying that I hate his image - well I do but that's not why I hate him. I listen to loads of black metal bands with corpsepaint and whatever. I'm saying he'd be nowhere without the image....

OK first up. In my most honest opinion I don't believeMM is a poser. Now you can either take that opinion and accept it and stop trying to hammer home the fact that you hate him or you can flame me for it which wouldn't be such a nice idea.;)
Now I personally think that with or without that 'image', as you put it, he would still be a great artist. I love his work and think he's a legend although I believe he's gone a bit off track fom what he was back in 1996. Yes, I wish he could be a bit more like it but many bands change their image over time in the same way and MM is no exception. Eveyoen just ahtes how he has changed in particular.
Now if you weren't so stupid and biased you would maybe have actually pointed out that he has not always been a poser. But the way you've done it makes it seem like he's always been a poser. Please, do your research and check thing out rather than take word of mouth and everyone else's opinion as your own.
You say that you HATE his image but that's not why you HATE him. make up your mind, you either hate him or not. Make your point clear or don't put it up at all. Either that or et your english seen to.
Oh, and this wasn't intended to be a flame in any way so flaming me would just be so wrong.

Most of his popular songs are covers. It's kinda funny.

November 4th, 2004, 11:49 AM
My last post is a bit misleading...I don't like his image at all. I'm saying that's not entirely why I hate him. I don't care whether you like him or not - I'm just saying that in the mainstream there's so much focus on image, and that image really sells how heavy the music is a hell of a lot of the time. And, many people are dilluded about what metal is really all about. I haven't heard the earlier stuff, so I'm not commenting on that, at least. I admit I've assumed that he's always been like that, and I'm sorry for that. But I still said he is a poser, not he's always been a poser.
Another thing that pisses the hell off with me is the way he discribes himself as an antichrist superstar....I bet he knows nothing about Norway....
I'm also not immature enough to resort to flaming in order to try and win an argument :p

The black metal cult church burnings in Norway.

He has never called himself Anti-Christ. it's in response to what the media and press have said about him. He has actually said he is a Christian and believes in Jesus 100% even to the point where he believes he talks with him everyday. I'd say that very isn't Anti-Christ. Besides, that was all back in the 90's.

Okay, black metal is everywhere, not just Norway, and like industrial music the best black metal doesn't come from just one place either. (Everyone thinks industrial is german only. Ugh. Please. I think Reznor would have something to say about that.)
Nomad
November 5th, 2004, 10:17 AM
Reznor isn't the only "good" non-German industrial artist. (Though, I don't care for him all that much).
VNV Nation is out of the UK, I believe. They're hip. I can't really think of any others right off of the top of my head, but I can think of dozens of artists better than Reznor, German or not.

What the hell? I didn't say that Norway had the only black metal. Black metal really started there (apart from Venom). I'm saying there was church burnings in Norway.

True Metal.... Other bands play, MANOWAR kills!!!!:D.
Polka Metal... The other day I friend of mine came running to me and asked to listen to something that could only be described as (I hate labels!) Folk Black Metal. Was fun, not my cup of tea but fun to listen to. Anyway, it tends to get annoying the more you listen to it :P.
As for Marylin Manson... Well, this guy (in my opinion, of course) has some high and low points in his career. Some of his albums have good songs (oh, the beautiful people :P) and some others are just plain boring. Some experimental stuff (very little experimental though) as Mechanical Animals is also fun. Anyway, his image should never turn anybody against him.
Speaking about images... We all know about the Rammstein cliche, don´t we?. Well, I assumed that cliche (cliche I don´t want to mention) for years and one day I came across their Live at Berlin DVD. After watching it I grew more and more interested in them and their stuff, music, image and lyrics and I realized they were never what one could think about them!. Now I like them a lot.

I've been listenning to a bunch of power metal lately. Iron Maiden, Sinergy, Dragonforce, and Primal Fear, all kickass power metal bands.
i descovered this band called Nightrage. they come from that Swedish/Finish melodic death metal scene, but having a former At The Gates member as their vocalist gives them a much heavier sound. totally awesome band, check them out.
