I have a proposition
To replace the city sky in maps 12 - 20something, I would like to introduce a sky I whipped up.
Please consider it in the very least...
Here are a couple shots of my map with it.

there has been a few skys requested
these 3 so far that i have:
so far id deffinitly want a newdoom-like sky like the first one there
we could have a vote or something to decide the others skys
so any that has any good skys post um here

Ok... Also, those skies are too tall for doom2, they are 256, where 128 is the maximum texture height... but I guess that can be fixed..

Those shots look goddamn awesome iori, love the silhouettes. The sky goes nicely with the level's colour scheme in those shots as well.

I don't really mind which skies we're going to have, since my map is set underground anyway ;)

not everyone that has a map where a perticular sky covers will like it

I don't care too much what kind of sky we'll be using. Just as long as the three themes look somehow like the ones doom has. No burning sky in a space station map, you know.
My only question about the "newdoom sky" is about the black spot. What the hell is it?

Gap in the clouds I suppose.
Of those three, the yellow sunset one has some nasty banding on it in the doom palette, and generally looks inappropriately un-menacing.
I vote replacing that one with iori's decidedly shiny effort for maps 12-20.

we tried to convert it to a doom sky but it didnt work to well
so thats a better lookin one there

iori's sky looks excellent, but I can't say I like those hi-res skies. They don't look like they'll fit with the theme as they just don't seem DooM-ish enough.

I dont car about the skies really, jsut make sure that my map16 doesn't have a hellish sky, as it wouldn't fit too well. And I don't think that will be a problem anyway, so pick whatever yall want.

Here is a hellish sky I compiled just now.
I dont care much if you guys dont want to use it, mostly since I dont have a 20+ map slot, but its there if you guys want it.

I really like that sky (in the first post) as well, it would fit well with my level. Unfortunately, I have map09, and the sky that's in there now (I think it's the newdoom sky) doesn't fit my wad at all. It looks kinda silly, heh.

I vote for Iori's sky thing as well, despite it probably not fitting a few maps in that episode range. But why isn't it 1024 pixels wide?

You can always ask around and see if someone in the 12-20 region would mind changing slots with you, but this late in the game, don't get your hopes up.

Speaking of this, I was looking at the screenshots page on the NDCP site, and I noticed that Map 20, Caverns of Despair by DooM_GoaT, had the 1-11 sky in one of his screenshots. Did you like that sky, DooM_GoaT? Would you be willing to trade map slots with me? (it's O.K. if you don't BTW, don't want you to feel like I'm pressuring you or anything. :))

Actually goat's map is in the 12-20 slot, those pics must've been taken before he actually set his slot... I might ask though, what map is yours, Nuxius? Because if it's not too high, I would offer a trade for my map 11 slot to a higher one...

Actually, mine's is only Map 9. Hence the reason I was looking for a map in the 12-20 slot. The red skies of maps 1-11 and 21-32 just don't fit the look of my wad at all, especially given the fact that my level takes place mostly outdoors and is pretty much all sky lit.

The "Newdoom sky" is indeed much better used as a hell-sky IMO.

I have the map01 slot and I don't care if the sky turns hot pink. Really this sky thing should've been determined from day one so we... errr you guys wouldn't be shuflling maps about at the end. heh.

I always thought the newdoom one was the hell sky. I imported it a year ago out of curiosity, before we had any others, and I suppose I forgot to take it out again. The map actually looks far better with iori's mountain sky.
I picked the map20 slot initially because I wanted a difficult map in the final third of the game somewhere, one of the first of the dark 'evil' maps, so I'd rather not switch it. But I do agree that we need a more normal sky for the early slots. If not, maybe darkwolf, ninja or one of the other early 12-20 people will swap with you.

Having seen the map with both skies, I can't agree. If anything, it looks like the newdoom sky was almost designed for your map. Iori's sky is nice, but it's not suited to the map's colours and theme.

Yeah, I agree with everyone that the NewDoom sky is best for the hell sky.
Good job on touching up the sky there, Doom_Goat, I tried it in jDoom/Risen 3D, and it definitely looks a lot cleaner that the original did.
As far as the maps 1-11 sky goes, we can keep it the same, or we could look for some similar dusk type of sky (at least I always thought it was supposed to be dusk) or we could even use the daytime sky that replaced the first levels of Plutonia. Just some suggestions.

Maps 1-11 : ????
Maps 12-20 : iori's sky
Maps 21-32 : NewDoom sky
Since I think we pretty much have the other 2 decided upon (no one's spoken out against them at least), what should we use for Map's 1-11? I already made some suggestions in my previous post.
Only have 1 more week before the (sort of) deadline. (Nov. 15th, right?)

If the NewDoom sky is used for maps 21 - 30, then DooMGoat and I would like to switch map slots, so that I have map20 and he has map22.

I recently decided to add a few areas in my level where you can actually see the sky, that is, I turned the lava caves into lava canyons. Which, BTW, doesn't really change anything about my sky-preferences. I still don't care whatever sky is used for map 21-30, as long as it's not a blue one with a shiny summer sun.

Sorry doomad, but that sky seems to be a bit too dark compared to the original sky. Your one doesn't work well as an outdoor light source.
