Who wants to bet that this is more likely to end up in the hands of criminals than honest people?

That thing sounds useless. A muzzle-loading gun that fires two shots is crap. And carrying it in your pocket while loaded will probably end up hurting one day.

Carrying self-defense devices of any kind only leads to more violence. Plus a thing as small as that won't help against an unexpected assault.

Yeah I know violent crime is on the up, it is here in the UK, we just had a drive by shooting where a 14 year old girl died and it seems like there was no reason for it but I can't honestly say I have ever felt the need to carry a weapon for self defence. Sure fists and feet aren't always a match for a gun but that's all the ones I am ever comfortable to have. Carrying weapons just seems like DoomedAce said to lead to more violence, more weapons being built for "self-defence" and so it goes on. Plus the goons who feel like carrying a gun makes them so big and clever. Wow, since when did owning and carrying a gun make your intelligence go up? *whatever*

your more likely to hurt yourself than you are of actually be attacked. unless you live in a really crime strick'n area perhaps. anywhoo, credit card gun sounds useless to me.

Because they make money with it.

Thats pretty dumb and somebody will only shoot themselves in the nads with one of those things. Plus some criminal will use it to hold up some joint. Meh. I hate when people invent crap for money.

Yup, people invent dumb shit and say it's really good use it against crime bla bla bla and they earn money and other people will have a bullet shoved up their leg or feet cause they bought that crap.

And I think this is a bad idea too. A portable firearm that anyone can buy? Not very smart I'd say.
...and like a credit card too!?! I mean, come on...even someone without a gun permit can get theirs hands on them, and it would get out of control quick. Not to mention the fact that if gets into the hands of a high school student...say a fight gets on or a bully shows up...they will want to use it exactly as it is intended to.....self-defense...it's got potential but I think there are too many risks concerning the idea.

yea....i dont think thats a very good idea either....its like spy-tech or somethin'. Not good for public use.

Geez!
As if that wasn't bad enough, look what I found on snopes.com! (http://67.19.222.106/inboxer/video/cellgun.mpg) It's a four shot .22 calibur pistol disguised as a cell phone.
These kinds of things are fun to see in James Bond movies, but it is really distressing to think there are wackos out there on the streets with these kinds of things for real.

With no one to play mind games with, it is probable that most women would commit suicide within the first year once men are gone.

I certainly hope this is something that was invented to be a mere novelty. Not that I'm for the "too much violence" arguement, but because that thing wouldn't leave much of a dent on a human being of average build. It's more likely to just piss of the attacker and then likely from there make things worse. Not to mention, most people can barely aim with a real gun with a handle and trigger, let alone a credit card with no handle.

October 14th, 2004, 10:14 AM
If the charge is big enough, that little thing could be lethal within a few feet. I still wouldn't want to carry one, it sounds like a accidental disharge waiting to happen.

Yes. I suppose the celery gun is next.
All of this kind of reminds me of various episodes of Get Smart, where Max always had either guns or transmitters concealed in various every day objects.

Hehehe. Pocket discharge. Oh sorry. *wacky*
Boingo the Clown
October 14th, 2004, 06:37 PM
That reminds me of another Get Smart moment that somehow got past the 1960s censors.
In one episode, Max sticks his pistol under his belt, as is often depicted in police and crime shows. The gun goes off. The chief and 99 are worried. Max takes a quick look down his pants and says, "Missed it by that much."
This same joke was used in the 1979 movie "The Nude Bomb", a.k.a. "The Return of Maxwell Smart".

Oh, so an inanimate object increases violence?
Humans are violent, weapons are not. The criminal starts the violence, if you have no weapon, you may not live.
DoomedAce
October 15th, 2004, 06:42 AM
But if you DO have a weapon you are less inclined to avoid risky situations, since should something happen to you, you always have a weapon for backup. Thus you become more careless.
Tylenol
October 15th, 2004, 06:46 AM
How does that make a human more violent?
Carrying a weapon does have the effect of raising one's confidence, but not violence.
DoomedAce
October 15th, 2004, 06:49 AM
For some people, it does. Makes them too confident of themselves, arrogant even. I've seen it happen many times over.
When you're carrying a weapon you're expecting to be assaulted. And that's a bad motivation in the first place.

Expected to be assaulted? I haven't heard that one before. I'm sure all the cops go out and expect to be assualted.

I haven't been flaming anyone, nor have I started anything. Yes, I was a little sarcastic, but nothing major happened.
What is there to complain about... exactly?
Anyway, there's Goldy and DD to shutdown threads that have gone out of hand. This thread is active, so they must not see a problem.

It's a bit of a story. But Diablo's the name. I'd dig for the thread but it got lost in the hack. And it's not in the database thing either. Everything between amy 2003 and january 2004 is gone. But seriously, who the heck would want to waste their time "checking up on me" ? Tell you what, amybe i will. If he's got some fantasy to see me insult him then so be it.
