This is bugging me. A few weeks ago I had to upgrade from Win98SE to Win2000 Professional. I needed an NT operating system to do some of my homework, but I didn't want XP, so I got 2000 Pro - that's what my laptop uses anyway. But my laptop has always had a problem playing online...

I'm talking specifically about playing Legacy on Doom Connector. I can't join anyone's game without lagging them. Never could, on my laptop anyway. But now it's happening on my main computer, too. It's starting to worry me - right now I'm not playing online much (anyone who knows me on DC may have noticed my absence these past few weeks), but I'd like to figure this out before I decide to play more often again.

I'm wondering whether or not the OS is to blame, but everyone else I've talked to who has this OS said they were having no problems. Damndest thing. Any ideas?

How are you accessing the internet? Router? Lan? Cable Modem?

I'm 56k Dialup, joining various cable hosts... all of which can host fine (and I never lag anybody normally). This only came about when I installed Win2K, but nobody else seems to have this problem...

Maybe this is a coincidental thing, and not 2k's fault at all. Are you joining with servers across the globe? Because I'm on cable, and when I join a game in Estonia or Holland or even England from Canada, I lag right out.

It never made a difference before. These are people I knew and have played with for a year now, and only now I can't join them without causing lag. No matter who I join, I cause lag. I'm certain it's not their fault. Any other ideas?

The only thing I could suggest is updating the modem drivers...
