either that texture is named wrong, or someone screwed up the dimensions of that texture.

This is one of Tabun's textures and they're not made for jDTP but for Quake III Arena. All of the Tabun's skin textures are wrong. If you'd compare them with the original textures you could see that they'd have different dimensions. They should be replaced.

uhm that must be the old one.... couple of places u can go

http://forums.jfiles.org (official JDTP)
Click JDTP up top to get to the textures.

http://www.nullparameter.com (some of my own textures)
Click Gallery to get to the textures.

Remember any of the textures you get will need to be saved in your doomsday\data\jdoom\textures directory

Bishop, I got permission from Tab to use them ages ago, check here: http://forums.newdoom.com/showthread.php?t=21356&highlight=tabun (end of topic)

I had noticed those misalignments, but its obviously not my place to start cutting his textures up and making them fit. In other places, they work fine and look good, so I just left them in as they are. Of course if anyone makes a better set, they'll be replaced. Simple :)

Your's are good, and higher res, I just wish they looked as nice as these.

Ok lets have an quick poll - its not my pack, I'm just the packager. Which texture should I use? Envids can be found on Null Parameter in his sig, Tabs is shown above.

i think a seperate thread for voting, also i only have the d2retex's version.

I think its ok in this thread, it is about this problem after all. I dont want to start another barrel invasion, heh.

So, please discuss, I'll make a decision based on the general consensus rather than a poll. Personally, I'm leaning towards using Envid's textures at the moment.

could u post a picture....and true we dont need another "barrels of fun" thread heh

make it easier on my end...if i had his texture id use it for comparison... from what i see I like the random transpariencies with the symbols.

ahh cool thanks for that. I see pluses and minuses for both. Mainly the big plus that the tab's has is his shading and regularity with the bubbling... although if u bring up the original sprite the bubbling is in certain places....artist interpretation i guess.

They are both good....i really cant decide.

maybe i should just polish the texture up like i did with the tekgrens and then decide... heh

yea thats pretty sexy, although i might have to revert to the older iron lightness...

Way to go envid! That texture rocks, although I still think it needs to be a bit more "brownish". Just a personal opinion.

And to both envid and chiv:
But there is one thing I'm wondering about. There are other textures in the pack that contains walls with nails (like the "wall" surrounding the skins), right? Or am I remembering incorrectly. If so, if chiv is considering to replace tabuns version with envids, wouldn't there be an inconsitency with wall textures containing this "nail" style?

EDIT: And by the way, a little off-topic. Envid, I tried registering on your site quite some time ago, but I never got my confirmation mail.

chiv knows full well about inconsistencies with texture styles. Im pretty sure he wouldnt replace tab's unless mine was fully completed. I do have most of the skin textures (old textures) with the tabs done. I think i have a couple of the gore ones to do. I plan on going over a final polish with all my textures once i get the basic detail down.

For example look at my old tekgrens....then my new ones. Good example of the polish up.

Registration works now.... i was having issues with people hijacking my smtp server for relays and it was blacklisting my domain. The issue has been resolved and if you read the main page it labels so.

Thats way better Envid, I think the only thing holding it back is it appears too cold - maybe its more realistic that way, but the original one has a nice soft red tint to it that made it look as if it was still alive. Also, where the skin is nailed in, I think it would be nicer with a bit more stretch around the folds. And If you could make a sort of charred, blistery effect around the symbols, that would be above and beyond :)

edit: Kresjah, consistency is something that I have long stopped worrying about - its next to impossible in this sort of setup, with dozens of different people with different levels of skill or techniques, doing stuff at different times, often without even prior knowledge of who else has done what (until now, at least I've resolved that last one with the new pack). Mainly what I'm after is stuff that kicks ass - consistency is something that can be resolved at a later date, IMO.

good eye chiv, definitley would look sexier :P Right now im burnt out on textures for the moment so im delving in to md2 stuff. I will make sure to make the skin textures complete next on the list.

To be honest, I'd already noticed what chiv pointed out (stretched skin), but I decided to keep it to myself. Let's just say that I didn't want to repeat my deed of unintendedly being the one who brings up a subject that leads to another "barrels o' fun" (or "skins o' fun") thread. :p

hmm its a bit difficult adding blisters, scorch marks, and keep it looking alive.....lol

i even tried to make it wet to compensate....
btw the stretch marks will be replaced with curves i just wanted a basic idea of it.

I like that, still, could be a bit more saggy and pink I reckon.

Not bad at all Envid, good work so far.

Having seen brands on human flesh they don't really look like that (though it depends on if your going for post healing or not), atm they look fresh (due to the darkness of them) but they should be more red with green and yellow mixed in. I thought you might like some references:

Actually, the tanned skin looks better than the pinkish skin. I always thought it should more like leather than human skin anyway.

On another note, and I should probably post this in the jDTP topic, one of the things I don't like about some of the redone textures is that they are blatantly different from the original ones. It's so noticeable on the original Doom maps, but many custom maps where the creator has taken time to align and mix similar textures look kinda screwy sometimes. I recommend there be a way to "standardize" certain elements before the jDTP is re-released. For example, things like switches and gargoyle/lion heads should be set as a separate patch that anyone designing textures with said items has to use the "standard" ones. This goes for a few flats too. flat4_8 and flat5_1 are supposed to be similar with one showing more rust and scratches than the other in the original WAD, but the one released in the Retex Project were almost completely different. I'm glad this was fixed in the newer release of the jDTP. But textures and flats like that should be done by the same artist to mantain consistency.

Sorry, didn't mean it to go this long. Just a recommendation.

that has already been happning. That is what this place is for http://forums.jfiles.org/album.php?sid=47e8688261ecea0f87fc29c8b15a5088
the latest pack released on jfiles.org all align properly and look like the originals
