When I try to play Doomsday I get this:

WARNING!

glBSP utility not found!
Please make sure that Doomsday is insalled correctly!
Doomsday will run without additional glBSP map data,
but you may encounter graphics bus and/or performance degradation!

I tried to reinstall many times but still get that Warning. It plays ok when I launch anyway but it does look a little funny in both modes.

This error comes from the launcher (called Kickstart). Kickstart is actually a bit outdated, since there has been a lot of updates to the Doomsday Engine, but not Kickstart.

Anyways, the reason why this error occurs is because in earlier versions of the Doomsday Engine, the program glBSP was bundled with it as a seperate program. Kickstart would then launch the glBSP program. The newer versions of the Doomsday Engine now has glBSP built into the Doomsday Engine program itself, without having glBSP as a seperate program. That is why Kickstart says it can't find glBSP.

Go to the "Misc" tab of Kickstart and uncheck the following two boxes:
- Check if glBSP needs to be run
- Launch glBSP and look for IWADs without asking me

Don't worry, the Doomsday Engine still launches glBSP, but the newer version does it from inside the game. :)

But you say that graphics look a bit funny in both modes. Could you explain a bit more detailed what you mean?

Thanks for the quick reply Kresjah. Well the graphics are not to bad but in Ultimate Doom in the first level (E1M1) the 2 colums when you go left after spawning in the game and go up the stairs to where the armour is when I turn to look back the colums seem off tilt and not straight up and down and they seem to move when you look at them while looking from side to side slowly. Hope may explaination don't confuse you lol. I got the latest drivers for my graphics card and it works great for other ports but Doomsday is a bit funny with that weird movement of the colums and the walls in hallways and such seem to lean in at the top.

Hehe. I'm not confused by your explanation, but it is a bit hard to visualize it. It would a bit easier if you took a few screenshots. Take a screenshot of how it looks when it is tilted, and some screenshots when it looks like it's moving, and post them here... I'll see what I can find from those screenshots...

I think he's referring to the sprite-based columns in the green armor room on E1M1, where the three sergeants are in UV difficulty. What he's describing sounds like the behavior of sprites when you look down at them, since they always try to face the viewing plane of the player.

Changing the “align to" option to "camera" in the control panel under objects disables such movement for all sprites except flying badguys. Though that the walls " lean in at the top" could suggest something else wrong.

Catsy: I knew where he was talking about, I was just unsure of what he meant about moving an tilting, although when you explain it that way, I think you're right.

CtrlKeyEmAll: Well, the reason they are moving and tilting is because the columns are made of a simpile, flat 2D images. Tilting wasn't a problem in the original Doom, since you couldn't look upwards and downwards. This happens for the same reason that it looks like they are moving (this moving actually happened in the original Doom too). The game is programmed so that the 2D images will alwas face where the player is viewing. This means that when you look at the column, and tilt your head, the column will tilt just as much as your head.

You can't do anything about it else than replace it with a 3D model (take a look at jDRP for this).

EDIT: What vermil says helps a bit (had forgotten that option), but it still won't look realistic. I still recommend 3D models :)

I got rid of this by just downloading gIBSP.

Thanks to everyone for the replys, really appreciate it. I got a good screenshot that shows how the column is tilted and the stairs look crooked but it is way beyond me how to post the damn thing lol. I clicked Insert Image but what do I type in the box for the image to show on my post?
