I was wondering if you would make a HUD model to match your crossbow pickup that is included in the official jHRP.

To me, imho, Cain's is too blockish in the stock. I do like his arrow effects but the wood color is off. Even the HUD is a bit off with no HUD status bar showing.
The stock/ handle area just doesn't cut it for me.

Yours has a deeper wood tone to it like it has been stained and has more flowing, graceful lines to it. Seems to match the Heretic theme more, to me that is. I even like the arrow groove/channel you did on yours.

I'm wondering what others think???

You could try the crossbow by Jaquboss,it´s somewhere in the modelyard thread,
only the two metal rings could need some improvement, otherwise it´s great.

Cain didn't do a world-model for his crossbow, what you have displayed there is the hud model scaled down and placed on the ground. Jaquboss crossbow recoil animation needs a little work at present

HUD models are high-quality, and the model I made was a simple one to match the weapon pickup sprite (which is why it's standing up, not lying flat). I've never done a HUD model before, and I wouldn't know quite where to begin except to take the pickup model and triple the tesselation perhaps. But the model would probably look totally different when staring at it from handle to tip in a 'first person' perspective like a HUD requires.

In game, the pickup sprite has no arrow fitted into it, but the HUD sprite does. This is in keeping with Nafarias' interpretation that Etheral weapons like the crossbow can only be used by the Sidhe, who have the ability to harness the aether. Hence, an etheral arrow would not appear on the bolt slot until a Sidhe elf holding the crossbow 'wills' it. But this means the HUD model will need special care take to make a decent looking arrow waiting to be fired.

Frankly, I don't much care for how the 3D crossbow ammo looks right now, but I've kept my silence since Skyjake felt it was good enough. But they don't look like arrows with glowing green feathers as they currently stand. They look more like miniature plungers. If the Doomday engine is robust enough to handle a more complex looking arrow, I'd be happy to make them. But if everyone prefers them as is, I'll go back to my silence......

I did see on the raven-games.com page that the "HERETIC RELOADED" shockwave program takes my 3D Dragon Claw pickup and uses it as a HUD model by putting it in a 1st person perspective (even though they didn't ask me for permission). It's skin is low-res though, and while it's passable, it doens't look that good since HUD models are meant to be high detail.

I keep hoping that the guy who did the WAND and PHOENIX weapon HUD models will do the rest of them as well. They look nice. Someone needs to find out where he has gone and beg him to apply his HUD model skills to the rest of Corvus' arsenal. Being busy with fixing/tweaking/making new monster/object models, I'd rather leave the HUD models to someone who has already proved he can do a bang-up job with them....

I admit I'm less than enthused about the current ethereal arrow model. It's certainly serviceable--but it could be better.

I agree, the arrows need some work. I'd like to see what you would come up with, Slyrr.

You'll be credited in the final version (v1.0).
Anyway,I had to waste enough time rebuilding the geometry for the CLAW.
Now about the "high detail for HUD models" ...
That's generally true, but not for ONLINE games !
To get a decent file size (1-2 MB) for the entire game, you can't allow more than 400-500 polygons for a weapon.
Besides that, the SW3D engine is quite obsolete (DirectX 7), so you can't use more than 20000 polygons if you wanna get a decent frame rate on entry-level machines.
And finally, this ShockWave game has nothing to do with jDoom !

keep up the good work (and send me more models ... ha ha ha)
cheers

Yes sir :)

BTW - the heretic reloaded thing - does it actually have any monsters or opponents? I wandered around a lot, but didn't encounter anything except the ammo and pickups. There isn't even a clear command for 'shoot'.....

Talking about that Heretic Reloaded "thing":
- use "X" for shoot
- kill that damned IRON LICHE
- clear your browser cache from time to time (LOL)
- visit http://necromanthus.com/main.html from time to time (for updates)
- show me your 'power' and build the weapon no.5 (the Hell Staff) for this game, because I don't like the current model(s).
But take care: the same model is used for everything (item and HUD weapon).
No more than 500 poygons, 256x256 texture size.

be healthy

Sorry,but what's your problem ?

My problem is that I put a fair amount of stock in manners and you seem to have none. You present an attitude of entitlement and were, to my passing eye, being pretty rude and demanding to Slyrr.

My mistake, I was under the impression that this was a public forum. My apologies for intruding on your email conversation; I admit to bafflement as to how it got posted here.

This is your opinion only !
There's nothing rude or demanding to Slyrr here.
He is mature enough and he doesn't need your "corrections".
You're out of topic and this is a bad attitude.

As always.

There's nothing rude or demanding to Slyrr here.

A matter of opinion.

He is mature enough and he doesn't need your "corrections".

His maturity is not in question here.

You're out of topic and this is a bad attitude.

Et tu, brute.

If you wanna join us, please don't "please" me anymore !

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Whatever. I've said my piece. Cheers.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Not at all.
Different coords systems and nothing more (LOL).
Anyway ... are you a 3D modeller too ?
If so, join us !
If not, please, stay closer.
ha ha ha

cheers

I've already used my 'power' to make the Hellstaff for Jheretic, matching the sprite as best I can and even adding more detail. If you don't like the 3D hellstaff I already made, why would you want me to make another?

If you really don't like it, then you'll probably have to make your own or wrangle another modeller to do another one.

And it is rather curt to ask for more models when you have no claim on me that I know of. Abrupt statements like "make this model" or "give me more models" are usually preceded by a polite request, simply as a matter of protocol, and not phrased as commands.

But since all these models are being done for free by volunteers who want nothing more than to honor the original game with advanced 3D goodness, no one has any cause to complain. If they really dont' like they way they look, they're free to make their own and ask Skyjake to replace them. I'm sure he would if they were really well done....
