THIRD PERSON VIEW!!! :D
I binded a couple of the keys on my keyboard to switch from the first person point of view to the third person point of view. I've never had so much fun in my entire life! :D
It's worth trying at least once. It provides a bit of an extra challenge in terms of aiming at the enemies. :D

It would of been nice to mention the console command for curious people. But anyway, it's "pm_thirdperson 1" for anyone who is interested. First thing I do when the SDK comes out is make a tiny, simple mod so that it switches to thirdperson on player death - watching the ragdoll physics do their work is much more impressive than Doom3's default lame death.

do bind "*key*" toggle pm_thirdperson.
Or maybe the quotes are around toggle pm_thirdperson.

Whoops! Sorry 'bout that. *smacks his head*
Anywho, what I did was assigned keys to pm_thirdperson 1 and pm_thirdperson 0. I did this for my setup:
bind l pm_thirdperson 1
bind k pm_thirdperson 0
When I need to activate a switch, talk to someone, etc., I'll switch viewpoints. :)

Just for your info, a better way to bind that would be:
bind x "toggle pm_thirdperson"
That way you only use one key. :)

Additions to pm_thirdperson 1:
-pm_thirdperson height (default is 0)
-pm_thirdpersonrange (not sure of the default value)
Also i read that 3rd person deaths is activated by typing "pm_thirdpersondeath 1" in the console, though upon testing it all i got was an alternative third person view with the crosshair and hud enabled this time. The cross hair is relatively useless cos its right on the doom guys head and there appears to be no way to alter the height of the camera for this one.
