Many of you have seen Envid's textures. I was talking with him yesterday and he mentioned that he has been getting some negative email feedback. He has recently made a new section on his site for registered users only - this contains some even better textures.
Please can we support this guy. There are very few people around that have the talent to make textures of Envid's quality- and even fewer that can produce them at the speed that he does.I don't think that there is 1 of his textures that isn't better than that available in the current pack. If you use his textures leave comments in the comments section. If you have some critisicm make it constructive- If you don't like them at all don't use them and keep your opinion to yourself.
Like all artists he needs feedback to improve and optimise.
Thanks.
(btw Envid - i notice your site is down atm)

Unfortunately, I wasn't here to find out about Envid's texture packs and I was hoping to see the screenshots and then download them. He has my support with his work though, he sounds really talented from what I've read. Besides, I've tried to work with textures and mine end up terrible... :P

I think he's too busy playing d3 to be bothered by stuff. Maybe his site is experiencing technical differences and he doesn't realize that it's down. But can someone e-mail him? He hasn't replied to my PM yet.

Then that'd be some heavy technical difficulties that leaves the main watcher offline....

Maybe if more than just me PM's him he'll respond. Everyone send him e-mails of support.

I e-mailed him a few days ago: This is the reply i got:

I'd say the server is down completely for some fixing or something... If anyone has a idea of where his server is stationed I could find out whats wrong in a short period of time

hurricane frances.....nuff said
im in florida and had to evacuate the island...didnt want all of my data taken away if my house were to be uprooted. It will be back up shortly. I was cooped up in a motel for so long with my laptop i actually made a fair dent in a resource pack of my own. eg: fixing the crappy pistol md2 and the punching md2s. Ill show screenshots of it later on. At this time it looks like I may just put all the lightmaps, textures, models, environment and other effects in to a pk3 pack. I dont want them to conflict with official releases so Im routing the ded files differently and re-writing all of them from scratch.... and yes I will implement how danni made it so that u can turn off certain models from the kickstart.
btw thanks danni for the help with the md2 format, and the jdoom port.

on another note, yes constructive criticism is awesome. If something doesnt look right and you tell me what it is or at least a vague idea of what you dont like, ill either explain why i did it a certain way or work on it til it is fixed.
The new registered users area with textures is a bit different. When/If jdoom will release bump and specular mapping I will have them ready for my pk3 pack. This will be for the models and the textures created.

Good to hear that you're alive and well Envid.
I live in North Queensland Australia - so i know all about those nasty winds - we call them cyclones here. Glad to hear you survived it - saw some news footage and it didn't look much of a tourist attraction.

Not too much damage I hope? I actually didn't think of the fact that you might live in Florida when I saw it on TV. I'm English, so it's hard to compare it when all we've had is a panzy mini earthquake, I mean... I slept through it anyways. XD

Hey, do you live in Orlando, Envid?
no dbl posting heheh
But glad to hearyou're still in the biz, we all love your work, except for those jDTP undercover agents that gave the negative feadback...

no im about 45 minutes east of orlando.... im 5 minutes from the space shuttle or cape canaveral. The island cape canaveral is on is called merritt island. If you watched "the right stuff" there was a blurb in there about cocoa beach which is about 10 minutes south of me.
As far as JDTP undercover stuff i doubt that is really an issue considering alot of textures ive done are being added to it.... so in a sense im really apart of jdtp. Chiv does some really spectacular work and i envy alot of the methods that he incorporated to do the things he did. Although some "styles" of the work is what i disagree on. Hence why im trying to emulate my own feel on what doom 2 was.
Let me make a reminder that because i disagree on it doesnt mean its bad....its just not the style i was looking for. Lets take for example the marbface on the JDTP. It is really clean cut and digitally flawless. However in a gaming environment it doesnt look like etched away or "sculpted" marble. So the art work will be fantastic and digitally sound but the essence of "doom" seems to be lost.
Registered textures are just my interpretation of the textures. Considering original doom artists only had 256 color pallette to work with, i think it leaves alot of variance regardless of the color.
The emails are just small but subtle crap ones. I checked the heretic and hexen areas and it seems like they need help in that department. I may chuck in a couple of textures or models to the community that needs to be done, but it wont be primary til im happy with the mod im doing with doom.

Snazzy new textures, envid. When are you going to release that pistol?
Envid
September 7th, 2004, 05:24 PM
i actually have a new md2 for the armor, medikit, rocket, ammo box, and quite an innovative suprise if i get the kinks worked out. The pistol will probably be released when i detail the skin a bit better. Im not liking how the bullet casing when its ejected doesnt look metallic enuf
jls23
September 7th, 2004, 05:28 PM
Oh, it's fine. Do your casings ACTUALLY eject, oris it just a part of the hud? What I mean to say is, do they show up on the ground?
Envid
September 7th, 2004, 07:10 PM
no the casing does not hit the ground but it is an actual ejected model. The problem is that the model is linked to the pistol. If the casing were to hit the ground it would be relative to where the pistol is located....meaning if u run around with a pistol in ur hand the casing would be drug around the level in relation to the pistol. If i could seperate the model link from the pistol then it would be quite feasible. Unfortunatley i dont know all of jdoom's capabilities so its very difficult to innovate with limited knowledge. Also it wouldnt matter because by the time u fired the second round the original casing would disappear.

I wonder.... PM skyjake and he may be able to tell you if it's possible.
DaniJ
September 8th, 2004, 10:50 AM
No it's not possible. You can't attach a particle generator to a HUD sprite yet.

September 8th, 2004, 12:54 PM
Ah, ok. Didn't even have to bother SJ.
EDIT: Hey envid, do you know if it would be possible to alter the current lightshaders on the guns to simulate specular lighting? You know, the fancy shaders you get when to put your gun up to a light?
EDIT: NOOOO!!!! NULL PARAMETER IS DOWN AGAIN!!!!!

Hmm, I just registered to check out the new gallery but it didnt send me a confirmation mail :(
But glad to hearyou're still in the biz, we all love your work, except for those jDTP undercover agents that gave the negative feadback...
I'd be delighted to know what gave you that notion. Theres only me, Dorian, DaniJ, Grimm and Envid who are relatively active on the JDTP site, none of whom I would imagine lowering themselves to petty anonymous insults. Least of all Envid, unless he has a double personality *grin*. Regardless of the fact that it wouldn't achieve anything for better or worse, everyone who counts has been perfectly open and respectful in expressing their opinions to date. So please dont make a storm in a teacup.

Ive had issues with my pop3 server lately.... ill double check on whats up with it and thanks for letting me know. I doubt anyone from jdtp would send it, i just find it interesting someone would even bother sending me hate mail. Not like my textures, models are the only ones lol. Doesnt make sense unless its personal.
Ravey
September 10th, 2004, 09:31 AM
Hatemail sucks but atleast they are taking the time to email you, right?
I appreciate anyone who can create any sort of models, I've tried and i've learnt how hard it is. :P

nah the more i practice with low poly modeling and the limitations of games the easier i can adapt.

Hmm, these things usually turn into flames when someone makes a big deal out of a joke or a random statement. I was just joking, it was supposed to be situational humor. I like the work you guys have done, too. I'm a Bush-supporter and I make fun of him all the time. Doesn't mean it has to be turned into a flame-thread.
