Catalyst 4.8 and CS

i think the 4.8 Catalyst drivers are causing some problems with Counter-Strike and all other games in the Steam package. after playing for awhile i get a strange blip of sound and my screen goes black. after i reboot things are fine. at first i thought my system was over heating, but just tonight i experienced a crash while i had my case open (and a fan blowing on my rig's guts). sometimes my picture will only studder, then come back with strange rainbow glitches on surfaces everywhere. and once ATI control panel notified me with an error report, something about failed 3d acceleration, i don't really remember.

i haven't really played CS for awhile, not sense installing Catalyst 4.8, anyway, not until recently. so i think it is the drivers 'causing this problem.

any words of wisdom for my wayward soul?

EDIT: yet ironically enough, Doom 3 runs great. *squint*
