doom 3 help newbie

OK so I loaded doom no problem there. But when I click on "NEW GAME" it goes to the loading..about 10 sec worth..then back to the main screen.. Any idea what the problem is?

dual amd 2.6
radeon 9800 pro xt nvidia drivers
2g ram
120hd

sorry use ATI drivers.. but that aside. why wont the game go beyond the "loading" stage?

Ghostrecon, and metal of honor have no problems with the graphics card on the same machine..So im asuming its not a graphic problem..tho i could be wrong
