WOO here goes my first post *bang* . I purchased doom 3 about 2 weeks ago and installed it no problem, ran it perfectly all the way through to the recyling area (no.2). At about that time i got a new Seagate SATA 80 gb harddrive and threw out my ancient old hard drive in favor for this new one. I reinstalled everything, all the same drivers etc. Heres the odd thing.

I start the game fine, it proceeds to the menu screen (and past the intro video sequence with none of the following problems i am about to address) perfectly, then when i start a new game the problem immediately begins with the into video sequence to the single player game (no the ID software intro video). The game begins to jerk, for about 1 second at a time the game runs perfectly i.e. sound plays, high fps etc ( i tested the game on lowest to high settings and fps is not an issue here) but then there is an extremely brief pause which (due to the frequency of these 1 second apart "jerks") causes the sound to reitterate itself over and over many times in gradual increments until it is finished. For instance when i start the game the scientist sitting on the bench near the ship docking bay says (i gotta get outta here ) "i gotta get, gotta get o, otta get ou, tta get out..................and so on until the sound finishes playing)

If i turn sound of the game looks like it is running "smoothly" with these tiny "jerks" after each second. Once again rule out all fps issues as this is not an fps issue, and is only associated with this game. The only other game i have on here it ut2k3 which i can run at max everything (woo, impressive youre thinking, lol) with none of these problems.

Hope some of you guys can shed some much needed light on this very troublesome problem-laden game, thanks for your time! :D

Sounds like when you reloaded the comp you didn't install updated sound drivers. I'm almsot sure it's a sound driver prblem. It you did install updated drivers, try the next oldest driver.
