I love this but I'm starting to see it more as resident evil 3D but with the pohotrealistic renderings of max payne and i'm only in low quality setting hehe love the game
If only my mother whould see all the gore in it she whould stop caling quake2 (blood and guts) hope with my new card when I get it I whould get sick I think is not nice all the blood in the administration level but hey i'm not guy that loves non violent games without blood.
What happen with the cleaning staff?
hehe
I can't see this as doom3 i mean not as a sequel but as game similar as doom classic I said is more resident evil with the graphics look of games like max pay well I do see my old enemies except the one from my school hehe.

The game is Doom all the way minus some of the elements of its predecessors. Ya, the multitude of zombies are ok, but wheres the Arachnotrons, Pain Elemental, and the Spidermind. Doom without the Spidermind is just not the same. I was hoping to enter different environments and get shocked visually other than excessive blood.

two words can explain why the attitude from the old one is missing:
john romero
i was actually just thinking about this myself the other day. remember when you were playing Doom 1 or 2 the first couple times?
remember thinking to yourself after you finished a level "the guy that made that level is an ASSHOLE!"?? I miss those days.
I want a remake of Tricks and Traps, Dead Simple (maybe hell knights instead of the arachnotrons?), and about 50 of the other Doom levels.
Where's the attitude? That's all i want to know.

Yea Carmack and his buds need someone to make better maps and someone to make an easter egg of in the final level ;)

I know what side of Doom I've chosen and it's Jdoom. In the future, and I believe Jdoom has a future; It will evolve into editable 3D environments and eliminate the 2D element. This is my hypothesis.

Doom 3 is certainly not as crowded as the originals were. But I can't say I miss it.
This is just a next generation of Doom, I guess. More horror, less action.

Yeah anyway I'm liking it more and more everytime I play the bad thing is I have to play
during day time to avoid nightmares I did get scared in some parts and well I can't say i'm not scared as I play and look every where with the flash light, I was wondering whould it need batteries for it but it looks like it does need them, hope I get the ati radeon 9600 with 128mb or 256mb soon.
But again as I write now I think that doom3 is not like the old one I know but I get that feeling of disapointment and then I feel same time hapy about the new Doom game.

Doom3 is what Carmack wanted Classic Doom to be like. Yeah Dead Simple and Tricks and Traps were fun and clever but if they were in Doom3 they'd take away from the story. They just wouldn't make sense there would be no way to put those in the game and keep the realistic haunted space station theme.

i like classic Doom and Doom3. i think Jdoom,Risen3d, will give us all the classic goodness we want, and with the next gen of monster models on the way MD3 based, they will look as realistic as the models in Doom3. its a win win situation all good :)...

I wouldn't. I mean, a gazillion isn't even a number at all. Maybe a billion, but that's just me.

What you mean by that ? I don't understand that attitude.

there was an ATTITUDE present in the original.
like, you'd enter a level and you'd think "as soon as i hit that switch, doors are going to open and literally 50 demons are going to flock out"
the level design wasn't done realistically. that was the original idea. to have desks, tables, chairs, lunchrooms, etc. But they trashed that idea (for doom 1 and 2, obviously not 3) and made the single best levels EVER DESIGNED FOR ANY GAME.
I don't know how to describe it. The attitude was tangible. Name another game where you can press a switch, and somewhere else you hear a door open and barks and growls fill the room.
You wanna see attitude? Play Doom 2 - Tricks and Traps. You can almost hear romero laughing at you when you try to beat that level.

Yeah Yeah I think I get the idea I know all levels by heart do you need a map?
I can draw them with my eyes closed hehe.
I was thinking how about a mod or TV of doom3 but for DooM classic?
With some realistic maps like in duke nuekem I love to see offices , bathrooms and other things that we see in real life administration area was great but far too bloody (sorry for my french but is true as we know and seen) mmm I must report to maintainment to clea that area... hehe

I see what you mean.
Its the original Doom spirit:
You open a door, dozens of demons appear,
you press a switch, more demons appear,
you pick up an item, even more demons appear,
you grab a key, still more demons appear.
Etc.

I prefer the original Dooms. Doom3 is good, but it seems to me to be a combination of the modern FPS, and the FPS gameplay you'd find 8 years or so ago. In which case the original Dooms outdo it in terms of OTT carnage and speed, and the modern FPS games outdo it in terms of large-scale scripted sequences and the style of gameplay they offer.

Because if they copied everything exactly as it was from the olde games it would be just a carbon copy on a new engine. Its Doom done different and I like it.

this thread is similar to other one around the corner...... the best thing is to stop comparing Doom 3 to the earlier dooms. It is 50% a remake of the origianal and 50% something new and sexy, and vibrant, and luscious and invigorating and and and something else I can't think of.

i have to play at night to avoid my brother watching (ok, so i cant run it untill next week, but my parents say thats what im gonna have to do) i really consider myself lucky, in some whacked way, because im not going to break my promise of "my first play of Doom3 will be at 11:30 or when everyone goes to sleep" in my opinion, scaring yourself s**tless is great!

I'm loving Doom 3 at the moment, but after a couple of hours of play I had the urge to play the originals. I satisfied these urges over the weekend and I've completed the Original Doom and am half way through Doom 2 (using the Doomsday thing... man, it rocks). So I'm very much in a doom sort of place right now.
Oh I also bought a shotgun at ToysRus.
But whoever said before, there is little point comparing them. It looks as if id went for old style game play with nex gen graphics. In my opinion, it was a good call. It's fun romping around blowing stuff to bits, and somewhere along the line alot of FPS lost this fun.

Actually it's 10% classic doom, 30% new and ugly, 50% something new and beautiful, and 10% repetitive.
