There is a preview of the power of 3dsmax *thumbs*
If someone wants to finish it...
I am bad in texture and animation so if you want to finish it, do it ;)

how many polys is it? I mean we could all make really good looking models in 3ds but the low poly count is what is killing the quality alot of the time.

The model have 3043 poly
He was already converted to md2 file and they work

EDIT : i was reduce the size of the skull for fixed a problem; The file was update ;) Now is OK for be finished

Holy moly that is waaaay to heavy on the polycount.

I made this a while back, he's now all UV'd up an ready for skining. I've already completed the pedestal and keycard skulls. Hopefully I'll have time to at least do the Lost Soul aswell before jDRP 1.1

Hohoho A jDRP 1.1 Screenshot :D

Yes, they are a lot of poly, i go to reduce that ;)

EDIT : I was update my skull, now they are 998 poly

You will be using that or the other to replace the Revenant's skull of course?

Xerxes
August 17th, 2004, 02:29 PM
Yes, also
But i was just make it for the fun, if someone want to use it, it's no a problem, he get it ;)

I rather like like the current version of the skull keys. I think they are supposed to be hand sculpted from colored stone, they don't have to be anatomicly accurate.

DaniJ
August 18th, 2004, 06:56 AM
Yeah that was my interpretation of them as well Lord Kaizen. I thought they where some sort of soap stone maybe.

Yes I will use that Skull as a starting point for both the Lost Soul and the Revenant but as you know I'm not really spending any time on the monsters for jDRP 1.1

NOOOOO!!! THE MORE THE BETTER!!!!!You obviously don't understand 3D engines. Using more polys doesn't necessaryily give better results and using 3000 polys when 300 will suffice is both wasteful and damaging to your fps. Once you add a skin to a model like that you'll find that you won't notice the difference, especially in game. The fact that Xerxes has removed two thirds of the poly count is testament to how much wastage there was, not how much form he's stripped from the model. For instance there is no need at all to model each tooth as it won't look any different once it's skinned.

Ughh, I hate being called ignorant. I'm a quality freak, and even if I don't notice it, i GOTTA have the best quality.

If Dani says he can do more with less, which I've no doubt that he will, then youve kinda got to appreciate it really man ;) Even Doom 3 has low poly models, its just the level of artistry that goes into them that fools your eyes. Obviously D3 has the advantage of bump and specular mapping on every single surface, but theres still alot to be said for a well constructed lo-poly model with a carefully made skin. Especially when you need a hundred of the things on screen at once in the worst case scenario.

Lord Kaizen

Nope don't need alot of polys for a good model. The new Unreal Engine's monsters don't have many polys but every detail looks like it's modeled in 3D and superior to Doom 3. It's utterly amaizing!

Besides the Imp model, the rest will be decorations, trees, torches corpses, powerups, ammo, weapon pick-ups and hud weapons, correct? The current megahealth, armor, bullets, shells, cells, rockets look nardilly (sp) cool. Will they be improved even more in the next release? Will I have to go out and buy a new computer to use the JDRP and play Doom 3? *bawl* LOL

Xerxes
August 18th, 2004, 04:59 PM
LOL, Dani was make great work, i don't think what you need buy a new computer for the lasted jDRP :D
But it's possible for doom3 *whatever*

My computer already chokes on the models and particles on ocasion, and that screenshot of Dani's bad-ass Imp *diablo* has gotten me worried! :)

Yep every single item/decoration/object has either been remodeled or improved. No you won't need a new computer for jDRP1.1, I'd say there'll be next to no performance hit at all.

Er, how is that possible?

Wicked Anime Kid
August 19th, 2004, 01:05 AM
It seems that Dani imrpoved the models so much, that he also kept in mind to optimize them. Thus the to previous versons of the jDRP there will be no performance boosts.

Xerxes
August 19th, 2004, 03:05 AM
Yes, also the particle system must be optimized

The paticle system is the first problem, but you can put a limit in the control panel ;)

Wicked Anime Kid
August 19th, 2004, 05:48 AM
Yes, too much particles can result in serious slowdowns because doomsday has to render so many that your game migth even crash....

The thing that also really has to be optimized is the dynamic lighting, I'm working on an arctic base map atm and I want to use dyn lights but alot of people cannot handle that...

Okay i'll model you a square with 2 polies, and a square with 1,000,000 polies. obviously the 1,000,000 poly model will be much higher quality.........

it s quite possible to improve the doom models drastically without too much performance hit, If you've seen some of the old (and current) models, I mean the imp has over 270 polys for the back of his head - not even including his face.. the same amount of noticible detail could be done in less than 20. and jls, if you want to stop being called ignorant and such, stop saying ignorant and dumb things ;)

jls23
August 23rd, 2004, 08:36 PM
;) yourself. I'll stop saying ignorant and dumb things when I'm damn-well ready for it, Felix.
