Couldn't resist using a bunch of codenames in a topic about codenames. I don't know what's coming in Hawthorne.

If you want to read up about some of the proposed plans for Hawthorn Skyjake has written up a short document about the plans he had for Doomsday 1.8 (which will now be appearing in Hawthorn) http://www.doomsdayhq.com/text/plan-deng18.pdf
Also when SourceForge finaly manage to fix the CVS there is some more detailed information about Doomsday 2.0 available there that Skyjake wrote a while back.

I've been adding all the wads and packs I could to 1.8. Will 2.0 auto-install in a way that doesn't delete all those wads and packs? Or will it be "best" to start again with a clean install and add everything again?

i really hope in this (hawthorn) skyjake will put music line deffs so when u walk over that line the music will change to lets say from d_e1m1 to d_e1m5
and is this possoble???

Risen3D already does that so I'd say it would be no problem for Doomsday to implement it.

Taking bets that Skyjake wishes he'd never mentioned the project....
From what he's said, it's definitely not something to wait for. It'll be done when it's done. I got the feeling of a "few years maybe" it'll be out. It's a complete rewrite. So I wouldn't really concern myself with it at this point. Just rock on with 1.x series.

From reading the old design docs on Hawthorn (and knowing the current code base) we are talking about much more than a "rewrite", it's a complete redesign using modern architecture ideals.
The current plan is to push on with 1.9.x in the general direction of the goals laid out for Hawthorn but accomplishing other goals in the process that will be transferable to a new architecture.

Every time someone asks that question, the release is delayed another 3~6 months just to reinforce that is is released when it is ready. Based on the amount of times that has been asked recently the expected release date is about mid year, 2015, assuming no one else asked that question before then.

Man, I just wish he would add 3d floors or slopes or something.These are things that are important but NOT at the stage Doomsday is at currently. Maybe we'll see them at some point in the 1.9.x series but currently there is more important work to be done.

But that's not a very desireable way to do it. First of all, you need to make the 3d model, make it the right size, and position it correctly as a thing! It is much better to have true 3d floors, that have a true shape (not square thing based) and sector based. So the player and monsters can walk on them.

i really apreciate what skyjake is doing for us doomer's and making a bran new engine and all but i would really like skyjake to the first to try my wad befor i release it for the doomsday engine thx guys for your help about this doomsday engine info

i find a wierd error in this doomsday beta 3 the latest version of doomsday
i have to delete the whole program and then reinstall it when any error occures
i find that wired and ya i hope skyjake fixes thoes segment violations and such :)
and ya i have a demo wad u guys can try but cant finish it till hawthorn comes out tho

i hope skyjake fixes thoes segment violations and suchSo do I. There seems to be a particularly obscure bug somewhere. Skyjake has already found and fixed one potential cause though.
i have a demo wad u guys can try but cant finish it till hawthorn comes out thoWhy can't you finish it?

and ya all i need is hawthorn to finish it to make mu doom 1 remix wad complete
i made a triler tho
and a deathmatch trailer for ma wad and it look's good

You'll be waiting a long time. Hawthorn won't be out for at least a year and a half by my estimate.

hmmmmm ok i guess ur right about that hawthorn not bein ready for a year and a half
but i just got curious becuse in some threads they said hawthorn was out and i was just makin sure and ya my wad has to menny error's anyway's so thats why i cant release it
and all of the other levels are fine tho

and ya these levels keep crashing but they are more stable in dethmatch 2 no monster's and ya way to menny errors for singleplayer but if it was perfict id send it to everyone

will skyjake add swimable water lava or acid??? in this hawthorn well very well then dani j666 i would like to give u my wad and ya it's only a demo of the real thing it will not be finished yet and i was wonderin if skyjake ever reads this thread i'd be glad to give it to hime but i gave dani j666 and skyjake credit for my wad for reason 1 beein my tester's and i was wonderin if u guys like to play some deathmatch in my wad it's called hard core doom remix
ill give u guys pics later on becuse reson 1 i am at school and reson 2 i dont got any pics and finaly the last reason im these p.c are way to slow fro my wad

A little z-trick for liquids would be pretty neat. Just enough to where it looked like you dropped in, but you could still get out of a normal area (ie only your line of sight was lowered).

i was hopein that skyjake will add like a wind current thing like in hexen map02 u can see the water go in a serten direction and pushin the object thats on that floor as well that would also be cool

and also how would u create 3d floors and add monsters on these 3d floors thats all i need to noe but also lets not forget how do u make water
will this water effect thing be like legacy where u can see the botton of the pool or will it be like risen 3d where it's a solid water texture? and also will it have a reflection on the bottom of the pool or a under water glow? :) that would also be nice to have

Practically every feature request you've made is already implemented in one way or another. New editing features are not implemented so that they improve the original game levels. They are designed to be used on NEW maps only (hence why there is no wind/object conveyors on Hexen MAP02's water/river.
Furthermore, please do NOTtripple post. There is no excuse for three posts by the same person, one after another in the same thread in the space of 6 minutes.

but the thing is ur gonna have to take off all thos resource packs and all the music packs

if skyjake adds doom 3 weapons can he add that classic doom 3 chaingun and rocket launcher and maybe a bonus rocket jump!
dont u think that would be kool DANI J666 but this feature can be switched if u want the doom 3 weapons or the classic wepons like the old skool weapons or the classic doom 3 rocket and chaingun weapons in this hawthorn
i was also hopein if that feature dont work if skyjake could um lets see in multiplayer that u can join anyones game on the hawthorn engine and they have a custom wad that you dont have can it be possible to uplaod the wad to your p.c and play the wad thith that person or will u have to do it the old fastion way where u have to find it your self?

The only way I can see wad-transfer happening is if the engine could (or can, I don't know anything as far as how it could be or is done) internally discriminate between commercial, and non-commercial wads (like between DOOMII.wad and say, the shareware DOOM.wad or a freeware add-on) - based on something more concrete than filename. MD5 wouldn't work, as you could just alter the wad a bit to have it pass - and this would be the fall of most detection methods. Although it would be nice, I can't see it happening. Doomsday can't afford to be seen as breaking copyright law, or even as a possible avenue for such.
-oh... and please, don't quadruple post. Use the edit button, repeat multi-posting is a sure-fire way to piss people off.

Actually the code is already in place for Doomsday to transfer whole lumps of data (each file in a WAD is a lump) over the net. It just isn't being used ATM for anything AFAIK.
Of course if/when those kind of features are implemented it will have to be in a way that prevents someone from simply using the cached data instead of an IWAD.

That code is already implemented, huh? Cool. Has it been tested in any meaningful way? And can it tell the difference between a commercial and noncommercial wad, or would you consider the onus for not distributing copyrighted works on the user?
Also, since that code does exist already, what are the chances that code could be implemented to something along the lines of, for example:
a given master server has a list of wads available for the servers listed on it to choose from for their "rotation" (preferrably automatic), when the host starts his available wads are logged by the master. Anyone who connects to a server from that master gets a list of all the wads that particular host has to offer, and the option to download any non-commercial wads they don't have from either the master or the actual host...
Not sure which would work better, I don't imagine Doomsday requires a lot of bandwidth to play - at least compared with most modern games - so it would probably be better for that download to come from the individual game host rather than the master to prevent swamping a popular master with download requests for all the servers listed on it. Then again, having the download on the master would give a more consistant result, than from different hosts with different connections. Maybe even a basic P2P system? IDK, its far-off thinking anyway AFAIK it would take a lot of extra coding to do in any form - and careful bandwidth balancing.
Whew. Man, when an idea pops in my head I just type forever... heh. Anywho, open to discussion. Thoughts? *what*

The lump transfer code doesn't look like its in use atm.
Any lump transfers would never be initiated directly by a user without Doomsday giving the go ahead.
The master server would not actually do anything in such a scenario. When a server registers itself onto the master server it already supplies a various bits of data (including WADs loaded, game mode etc). However, all the master server really does is provide a lobby where anyone can see everyone else who has choosen to play "publicly". In practice all that happens is: the master server points clients to servers (a bit like a telephone exchange) but no game/map data is sent to/from the master server.
Certainly something along those lines could (and probably will) be added but atm we have more important issues to deal with.
