Graphic Settings not Holding! PLEASE HELP!

I just installed Doom3 onto my PC. Everything went fine on installation then I loaded the game up and went right into the graphic setting menu. I set everything the way I wanted then hit apply, I noticed the box pop up and it told me to restart the game to make the settings take effect. So thats exactly what I did, and went back into the settings area to make sure everything was correct. NOTHING was changed, everything was back to default! I tried this over and over about a half dozen times and still I cannot get the settings to stay for anything. The game looks like crap at 640 x 480 so I wont even play it. I checked to make sure the doomconfig files werent set to read only like I had read somewhere else to check and they werent. Im up in arms about this and have no idea on what to do next please help me if you can! Thanks!

You didn't click DOOM³ safe mode did you? (I don't even know if there is one, I don't have the game yet). Other than that I don't know.

No, I didnt enable safe mode, I didnt even see that being an option! Thanks though.

Any other suggestions?

I had that trouble every time I entered Med To High To Ultra settings, after choosing that I would just set the resolution, apply, restart the game, went in set all the advanced settings, reappled and restarted the game.
