View Full Version : Are My GFX Overheating?

Hi, i have briefly read through other posts and my question is quite similar.
Before i got the game i was confident i would be able to run D3 on the "High" setting.
My system consists of the following:
Lanparty PRO875B Motherboard
Radeon 9800 Pro 256 Meg
1 Gig DDR Ram on Dual Channel @ PC3200
P4 2.53Ghz
However i tried "High" setting and the game would randomly crash when playing. So then i tried all the other settings down to "Low".
Well even after killin some demons on low settings for half an hour, the game then froze again. I got quite upset at this point :(
Im pretty sure my system should be able to handle this game with ease. I am not using the latest drivers just released from ATI (4.9 Beta) because i dont think this is what is causing the random crashing.
However, from reading others posts i have seen that other people with the same GFX as me are also having the same problems and are blaming it on the card overheating. I know for a fact i could fry an egg on my cards heatsinks even when the card is quite idle. So maybe it cant handle D3?
I tried changing different stuff in my GFX control panel (Speed/Performance) but i still get the random crashes.
Does any1 have any other ideas what could be causing this, or experienced the same problems.
Thanks for readin..

Well the confetti problem is gone
with the mentioning over heating of video cards I found my card to be very hot as well . My sound card was right next to my video card so what I did was move the sound card one slot over figured I tried everything else so WTF not try this ? It provided more circulation and air flow to the video card and now it runs great ( ATI Radein 9800 pro) I run the game at the second hightst setting and with all the advanced options set to yes and the game is looking good! Try it Shock and let me know..its worth a shot.

I dont think this is heat related. Seems like it's ATI related, maybe even 9800 users in particular.
Here's my problem. I recently upgraded my 9800 (non-pro) to a 9800 All-in-Wonder Pro. On my original 9800, Doom was unstable until I installed the Catalyst 4.9 beta drivers. Unfortunately, I can't use these with the All-in-Wonder as the "Multimedia drivers" are not included in the package, and Doom is again unstable for me. Performs much better, but will either quit to desktop or hang the computer after a bit.
Does anyone know when the final drivers are coming out, so I can actually play this game? Is there some workaround so I can use the 4.7 multimedia drivers and the 4.9 beta display drivers? *owell*

Hey, care to elaborate? Why are those better? They are also based on 4.7

I had exactly same problem...
I have fixed it; its very simple...
Go into your display properties -> advanced -> SMARTGART(tm) and set fast write to off...
Reset your computer...
I read somewhere that when its turned on it becomes unstable...
Give me some feed back on how u went...

fastwrites doesn't increase performance at all on ATI cards and causes instabiliuty so I recommend you turn it off. If you overclock then Doom ]|[ might have a problem with that. You could try the new 4.9betas, some 3rd party divers or tweak your Doom ]|[ autoexec.cfg file so doom ]|[ will work better with ATI's architecture.
