Hello everyone this is my first post to this forum and I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question. Im a college student living in western mass and I have had an interest in building doom 2 style wads for a long time now. I stopped playing doom for a while in the late 90s and up until 2004 where Ive picked up the habit once again. One of the main reasons I stopped building wads was because of a hard drive failure back in 97 that cost me dozens of wads I had worked on from the time doom 2 was released.
My question is does anyone know of a web site that I can upload anonymously my latest wad file to so that others can download it. I dont know anyone else who enjoys doom2 or level designing and I would like to get some opinions. I have been using search engines such as yahoo and google to find such sites but I have yet to find a site that is accepting wads.

The Doom Community Archive: ftp://archives.3dgamers.com/pub/idgames/
Instructions here: ftp://archives.3dgamers.com/pub/idgames/README.INCOMING
That's for finished maps, not works in progress. You need to provide a working e-mail address, but don't need to give your real name (if that's important to you).
For projects under development, you can try http://www.wadsinprogress.info. There you can provide information about projects at any stage of development, and get opinions on them.

You can also make a website and post them there...

I dont know anyone else who enjoys doom2 or level designing and I would like to get some opinions. There are probably a hundred or so dedicated level designers in the DooM "community" and probably many more casual designers. If you're looking for opinions on your works in progress, you can simply post on these and other forums (fora?), asking people to play-test your work.
If you've completed your maps and wish to "release" them to the public, your best bet is to follow Grazza's link. Another place to have your maps hosted is DooM Wad Station (http://www.doomwadstation.suhost.com/).

Thank you for all your help! As a result of the awesome advice I got on this site, I have posted my first Doom Legacy wad to a site called WIP-Wads in Progress. Well I didn't actually post the wad there just some pictures and a description. The actual wad file is posted on some little free website that I made. This is my first release of the wad. I hope to update it soon. :)

Please note that this wad was designed for use with the Legacy Port.

Cool another legacy wadster, welcome to the community.
You should post that link in the legacy forum too.
Dont bother, I just tried it, I get an error page when I try to download it.

The link works for me.
Anyway, here are a few quick comments. The map is overammoed and too dark in many places. The battles are good and the gameplay is entertaining for the most part, the poorest aspect being the periods you spend just berserking huge numbers of demons or spectres. I'd suggest introducing some more variety into the composition of the monsters in those areas, so the player can't just back into a corner and punch away while the spectres run into his fist one after another. Maybe a few more archies (and some extra health to balance that out) would be good too. I would have appreciated a backpack near the start.
Overall, I thought it was good, and could be excellent with some tweaking.

Thank you all for the awesome feed back! *spin* I was going to abondon the level and start another but perhaps now I will go back and work on an updated version using the advice I have received from this forum and from WIP Wads in Progress Site.
This poor level started in DCK running the normal doom2.exe version. It was origionally going to be just another doom 2 wad, nothing special. Then I discovered that doom had something called "ports" and I immeditaly found Legacy. So then I started re-designing the level so that it would work within legacy stuff (like scripts, mouse look, etc). But my new computer came and because of win xp I had to switch from DCK to winDEU and re-learn a new editor. Then I heard of Doom Builder and after trying it for like 1 second I decided to re-learn another editor all over again and swtich to that.

How do you post your wad website at on Doom Community Archives?

You don't post your website there; you upload files.
If you don't know how to upload files to an ftp site, then you can find some instructions here (http://www.doomworld.com/vbmisc/faq.php#nstf). You'll still need to read the official instructions (see my first post in this thread) though, since they specify what should/shouldn't be included in your upload.

Sound like you might not be using an ftp client (are you perhaps using Windows Explorer under Win2K OS as an ftp browser?). Post more information on what utility you're using to access the 3DGamers ftp archive to upload your file.

That might be it since it keeps asking me, and on the bottom right it say 'internet' and all of the similaritys tword using a Windows explorer box. Though It still looks like an average windows 98 folder when I manage to get in the server (sometimes it works sometimes it wont.) Sorry I coulden't be more specific but how can I use only a 'ftp client' when using it?

Download and install a free/shareware program such as WS_FTP (http://www.ipswitch.com/) or Cute FTP (http://www.cuteftp.com/). During initial set up you will enter the URL for the ftp sites you wish to access, such as 3DGamers archives. Once setup is complete you can connect by clicking on the relevant URL link in the ftp client's window, and after that the program serves just like Windows Explorer.
