Ok here we go ... doom 3 is great i just got it today and i played it and its really great. Untill i was really dissapointed because every character in the game has a line in the middle of their whole body ... head to toes ... and one side is darker then the other (i think this is doom 3 shadows) ... but anyways i am runing a 9000 ati radeon 128 mb graphic card. Now also i have tried to raise my level on the graphic settings but i see no difference. Doom 3 automatically checks ur software and hardware and chooses the best levle for you and mine is in normal (there is low , normal, high, ultra-high) ...

Also big problem ... first time you get to go doom 3 underground city , you get to acutally go outside on mars and the problem is the rocks. Its really sad because parts of the rocks are redish (the good color) and parts are whiteish ... this is really weird ...

if anyone can help id be appritiated ...

You should have at least 512mb of Ram (Actually id said 384mb of ram is the min so your just under) so look into upgrading that. Also the 64mb of ram on the vid card is a bit low as you should have at least 128mb on the vid. I think that it's your 64mb Radeon 9000 that is your main trouble.

do what others have done, take off all the video settings in the advanced system settings. uncheck all of them and put video on the lowest settings. then slowly check each option back on one at a time. it worked for looney so if it works for you, thank him :)

Yes I have noticed that The Tweakings I have been doing brought it back, as soon as I change the setting to low and turn each one back on one by one.. it goes away... Uping the imagecatch helped that as well and I don't get the funky color changes after extended play anymore.

Got it I will send back when I get it done. Just replace the one that is there now with the one send. start the game and sart resting every setting one at a time and apply each one before set the next, If it asked you to restart... do it, then continue to the high med settings, at 800x600 then up your res to 1024X786 If it plays smooth... Try the High settings at 800x600 If runs smooth move up 1 setting and test play again.... Back off to where it plays well for you and have fun. We hope. ;) anyway Be right back.

confirmed; I just installed the game and began play. I noticed the midline line present
vertical through all the humans in the initial rooms. I didn't want to go further in the game until I get correct options set. Funny thing is that I just installed the latest
driver for the vid card from June 2004.

The line is even more pronounced as I up the "in game" graphic settings to high and very high. Some others mentioned starting low in the Advanced Options settings.
Is this the "in-game" options or Advanced Options settings external to the game(ie. ati windows 2000 interface)?

My card is the ATI Radeon 9200(128mb).

Other system specs are adequate to play:
amd 2600+
512 ram
win2000
1000mb page file size

Hey bud I think I can help with your problem. The spots you see are called artifacts, normaly they are caused when your card is pushing out more than it can haldle. I know you got a capable card for the game, ati needs to hurry up with the new drivers, I aint going to use their beta! So here is an option to fix them, download a program called Rage3D, its a tweaker made for radeon cards. All i did was lower the Core clock speed of my card to 400mhz, from 411mhz, and the artifacts are gone, and I tested the FPS useing com_showfps in your consol (ctrl-alt-~) and had no fps loss because of the lower core speed.

Here is another tip that increased my fps by 8! Go into display properties and click advanced, now click on Direct 3d and then compatibility. Enable Alternate pixel center. Hope this all helps man

Hey Busta Stew this is what i posted in the "Are My GFX Overheating? " thread .....

Well the “confetti” problem is gone… with the mentioning over heating of video cards I found my card to be very hot as well . My sound card was right next to my video card so what I did was move the sound card one slot over figured I tried everything else so WTF not try this ? It provided more circulation and air flow to the video card and now it runs great ( ATI Radein 9800 pro) I run the game at the second hightst setting and with all the advanced options set to “yes” and the game is looking good! Try it Shock and let me know..its worth a shot.
My Video card was just getting to hot go figure...but thanks for your help as well..

are you overclocking your vid card? White, red or green dots are usually associated with artifacting when you are overclocking generally caused from overheating.

After I posted yes, I started at the top of the thread and responded as I went down. I don't recall you mentioning anything about overclocking, why do you have to be worried about being rude?
