I'm currently looking at a LOT of parts for putting together a new computer. All I've bought so far is a new 120 gig Western Digital hard drive. I do know what I want to buy after doing a lot of research. I was unsure of what sized power supply to get for this new machine I'm building. So I went and looked online for a Power Supply Calculator and found this handy one that seems to work great. Now I have a better idea of what I should get. It looks like a 400 watt Power Supply will be sufficient, so I'll be going with at least a 450.

Anyhow here is the linkage for anybody interested in figuring out the power wattage thinghy:

I just ran mine and added some extra wattage for the lights that are not listed:

Your Recommended Minimum Power Supply is 467 Watts!!

Good thing I got the 500watt PS when I got the new case. :D

Your Recommended Minimum Power Supply is 310 Watts!!

My computer came standard with a 350 watt supply, so Im good unless I start adding stuff :p

It only needs an option to choose if your using a good or cheap PSU.

My PC would need about 322 Watt. So, with my 420 W power supply, I still have nearly 100 W to waste. So, what should I connect to it? :)

Recommended: 367 watts

Im hoping like mad my psu is 400 watts, if it isn't, it's a wonder the system is still working...

What are the odds that you'll have all drives running with both CPU and GPU running at full speed. Unless you play a game that loads something from a RAID array while ripping & encoding in the background.

well damn, looks like I lucked out by having a good quality 420 watt PSU. I can thank Raidmax for that but I was thinking of upgrading to a turbo-cool 510 watt PSU.

I have 4 ramsticks so I had to add an extra 20 watts. Well, looks like I am going to upgrade my power supply soon. I am almost tot he point where I am going to beat you looney. Only 28 more watts! :D

EDIT: undertaker, I come close to that so I have to worry. That tells me not to overclock any more until I get a better PSU and better cooling.

Funny you should say that, considering I just set up raid in my system... *dark*

Apparently I have 200 watts more than I needed. I did this calculation in my head when my old powersupply started smoking, so paranoia must have made me add 200 watts of padding *grin*

I have a raid 0 system, man raids are great, just have to backup often, for a raid 0 system harddrive failure rate doubles and trust me when there is a slight problem, you will freak out. I know I do when it happens. I backup like mad now.

That sounds like a pain in the posterior. :p
