I goto the launcher and goto setup and choose the 3dfx glide render mode and it gives me an error when i try to launch. "Loadlibrary() FAILED : couldn't load 'r_glide.dll'" Then a following error saying "Error initializing glide". I have a 3dfx voodoo3 3000 with the latest drivers. Am i missing some file or whats going on?

I would like to help, but, I never could get 3DFX running on my Monster 3D expansion card. I have all G Force stuff now so 3DFX won't work anyway.

I think you have to use OpenGL in Legacy as 3dfx Glide has been disable for quite a while now. Maybe my mind is fried because I can't remember exactly but its not worked for me in ages... If you absolutely must use 3dfx mode then you'll have to find an olde version of the port that supports it (I think).

Then that would explain this:

Glide support will be discontinued in the C++ version, but the C one should support it again soon.

As for the reason about supporting Glide for people playing on old computers, that is true it's a good reason, but it's only a little bit faster than minigl and a little faster than the OpenGL ICD, so you'll still be able to play "hardware accelerated Legacy" on those old computer even when the Glide support will be dropped. If it wasn't the case, I would have done more effort to support both OpenGL and Glide API. But it really slowed down development in the past (when the major updates on Legacy where based on the renderer more than editing) to support both Glide and OpenGL, so I just prefer to drop it now for the C++ version.

You'll still be able to enjoy a "not too old C Legacy version" after all, even if the C version won't have lots of new features, probably only new FS stuffs and small bug fixes.

With this being the case you would have to download a version of 1.32 or earlyer to get 3DFX to work as Doom_Dude said.

Here is what Hurdler said in an older topic...

BTW, glide doesn't seem to work with Legacy 1.40. You should use and older version (like 1.32 beta 4) if you really want to use glide mode.

Now I think they were going to fix glide by version 1.41 or something but I don't know if that happened or not.

Soooo either update to the latest version and try that or get the older 1.32 beta 4 on SourcForge
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2479&package_id=2453

If you go for the older version some newer wads may not run correctly...

The problem with Glide now is it crashes when you see the sky. Hurdler said they're getting rid of it in the C++ version but hopefully have it working in the final C version.

Yep, sky's the limit it seems :p. Unless you want some Legacy-only levels to work, play it with 1.32. Thats a good, stable (even though 1.40 is supposed to be the stable one..) version that supports it.

when I had a voodoo banshee I used opengl, the glide renderer was too damn flakey, it squeezed some textures and did other odd things, just use opengl and keep your legacy up to date.

Odd... When I use my voodoo3, all the colour is better and frame rates are doubled. I wonder what chipset the Banshee was based on...

it was like a voodoo2 with 2d graphics added, was the best card when it came out, still does the job on pc I just gave away.
