Hello,
I am not able to connect to any servers or host a game (Doom2 using jDoom). I'm not able to connect or host in any way.
I believe the issue is this (found in the console):
N_initService: Unable to select device for TPC/IP
I have broadband, this is working, as I can submit a new thread =-) ...and am not behind a router.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a firewall blocking the Port Jdoom uses for Net play.
Try turning off the firewall and see if you can connect.

That's what is sounds like. And currently I am not behind a router (at least in my home). I can tell you that I do have a router that is split from my switch, which is where I am connected. Sometimes I flip back and forth between switch and router, but I don't see how this would create any problems.
Also, I tried connecting behind the router...no difference.

Is this a Linksys router, I don't know of any router you can just plug into. :P

Yes, it is a Linksys.

That is combo Router and Switch. ;) If you are behind that Linksys, You can set up one computer to have full internet access. As you said though you pluged in before it, so that would tell me it is a firewall stopping the connection. And your right, so long as it is Only a switch you pluging into that wouldn't matter unless the Linksys is before the switch.... I'm assuming you have a seperate Switch than what is built into the Linksys.

heh, here's my setup:
wall to cable modem
cable modem to Linksys switch
Linksys switch to my computer and a Linksys router
So technically I'm not behind the router, but I do somtimes use the router, so I just plug into the router and back to the switch.
Is there any way to specify what tcp/IP device I want to choose in doom2?

Not exactly a standard network setup but if it works for you. ;)

I took two years of CISCO training and do not understand what your asking here.... TCP/IP is a protocol not a device. Introduction to TCP/IP (http://www.yale.edu/pclt/COMM/TCPIP.HTM)

I'm asking about TCP/IP because I cannot connect to any other servers in Doom2, I'm using jDoom and you know my setup. Why would I get an error like that?

Yes I understand that, But, you ask about a setting in Jdoom to set a TCP/IP Device..... That is what I didn't understand. ;) In a Network TCP/IP is a protocol that helps move info from one comp to another. (I'm not familure with JDoom settings) But, if it is set to use TCP/IP as the protocol for network play, that is all you would need to do as the end user. This page http://www.yale.edu/pclt/COMM/TCPIP.HTM will expain TCP/IP without me typing a a Huge ass post. ;) Basicly it is a set it and forget it thing.
Now What would Block the TCP/IP from transfering...? Answer: a Firewall, Or a Router. Jdoom would not be the issue unless the coding for network play was all screwed up.
Oh yes, and if it were a corupt TCP/IP potocol, You would not be talking on the board now... you would have no internet at all..... That make any sence? :)

Oh, also, Are you running an IP address that is able to work on the Internet?
If you are running a 192.168.X.X or 10.X.X.X (X= any number from 1 to 255) It can't be used for Internet (World Wide Web) game play. But, it would work if you are both on the same Intranet (Local Network).

I have a regular non-router IP address

Meaning not a 192.162.X.X or 10.X.X.X?... Then you should be ok. Any IP address can run over a router. The 192.168.X.X and the 10.X.X.X are what is known as "Unregisterd IP Addresses". They are set aside for people to use in home and business networks but can not be routed over the Internet. The Other IP address, say for example 56.234.200.4, is what is called a "Registered IP Aderess" it can be routed over the Internet.
