OK, I have tried several times to host a game on DC with two different people and each time they get a SOCK_get: error. It occcurred to me that it could be my firewall settings. I am using a home networking router/dsl modem, and it has settings for allowing certain applications through. Is this the problem? And if so, how can I add Legacy to the list (it has a pre-defined list of games, one of which is Doom, but I tried that and it didnt work)? To add a custom one, it needs port ranges and stuff.. I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of looking there for the engines' ports as well. After I get a chance to try it again, I'll let you know if it resolved the issue.

Well, I finally got around to trying it out again, and my friend still got the same error. Any ideas as to what else it could be?

leagcy port # 5029 udp in and out.
if your on windows xp make sure to configure or 'disable your xp firewall' in the network connections > advanced tab. - this goes for clients also or they wont be able to connect.
and for any other firewall software you have - allow legacy.exe app and its port range.

I am on Windows 98 SE, and I have my firewalls letting through all the ports that the Doom Connector FAQ says (including TCP/IP 5029). The clients on the other hand... would it be beneficial to use a port-sniffer site to check for the availability of ports?

You are right. It is UDP, I don't know why I said TCP/IP. But anyway, it's ok, I got onto Doom Connector and have been able to play some games. Therefore, I have decided it is the firewall my friend is behind that is causing the trouble. Thanks for your help, though.

Hello, I'm back again and with the same problem. I have not touched my firewall settings since I last played Legacy through Doom Connector, but for some reason my friend (who's not behind a firewall, and was actually able to play with me before) is getting that bloody error again. Any ideas as to what it could be? It still sounds like a firewall-related error, but all settings are as they were when it worked!
Yes, I'm a bit frustrated.
