The question is out of all of those Doom
games which one is the best???
for me I choose Doom 2 because of it's alsome map design, the double barrel shotgun, additional monsters, and more blood shed.

I'd say Plutonia is best (design + gameplay), but I've played and replayed Doom2 more than any others - just because it is the game, I suppose. (Doom 1 was, to me, kind of an unfinished prototype.)

Plutonia, level design, challenging gameplay. I think The Ultimate Doom is pretty good as well, 4 episodes of nice levels (e4 maps could have used more different textures though)

I liked Plutonia the best. It has that nice level design to it. Utimate Doom was alot simpler than the rest.

I'd have to say Doom 64, mainly because it was the Doom game that scared me the most. Doom2 and TNT tie for second.

Id have to say Doom 2.

Its a close tie between TNT and Plutonia for atmosphere. Doom64 was what really got me into mapping in the first place, and has the best level design I've ever seen.
but of course nothing beats Doom1 :P

I can't decide. They're all just TOO GOOD, Captain!
Though I personally found Plutonia ungodly hard... I mean you face Arch-Viles IN THE VERY FIRST LEVEL...

Doom Ultimate is a walk in the park compared to Plutonia, even so I feel more atracted to Knee Deep In The Dead, I played the demo so much as a kid that it just got to be my fav.
TNT has it's charms as well, specially on the latest levels.

Plutonia was the hardest one. The Archvile labyrinth level (map11?) on UV was very difficult.

I love them all, but overall I love TNT the most. The levels are my faves. A close second is Doom 64 followed by Doom 1, then Doom 2, and in last place Plutonia. Plutonia's maps REALLY sucked. Plutonia was there as a challenge, the maps just don't compare to TNT.

Somebody told me that Evilution was the same as the Dreamcast version. Is that true? And if so, is Plutonia a platform version as well? Hm? Evilution and Plutonia are the two Doom-II based games in the software package Final Doom for PCs (and a heavily watered down version for PlayStation). No Doom game was ever officially/commercially released for the Dreamcast, but there are DIY recipes for burning your own DC port of the original PC games.
But if you want the original Evilution experience in full, play the original on the original equipment.

The Ultimate Doom. Nostalgia is a factor because it's the first one I played, but for reasons I can't explain I've always liked the lack of a super shotgun. (???)

The super shotgun is my favorite weapon. Powerful enough to take on most of the monsters, at the convinience of shotgun shells.
DooM 64 had the best atmosphere, IMO. I liked the darkness to it.

Another good point in Doom 64 is that you can't save during the game. (as in PSX Doom games) Which brings some extra challenge on the game and it's challenging maps.
PSX Final Doom, even it has nice levels, it has a serious lack of boss monsters, such spider mastermind can't be found from the game, and there could have been more tougher monsters. Mancubusses are very rare, they can be found only from one level, and same thing with Barons, enemies are mostly between Hell Knights, Revenants (they move too slow), and little monsters, chaingunners, sergeants, imps etc. But I think PSX Final Doom is a bit more harder than the original PSX Doom. Multiplayer is also great, especially cooperative, but DM sucks for some reason, I didn't like that, maybe levels were too large.

It was just too stripped down; over half the levels from the PC version were gone.
Sure, not all the levels made it into the original PSX version (of Doom and Doom II) either, but it wasn't enough to destroy it. The awesome atmosphere won out on that one.
The saddest thing is that the Super NES version was the most accurate conversion level and music wise. It was the only one to have the original PC version music (Jaguar version didn't have music during the levels, and the 32X version was a mess). It was also the only console version to feature Slough of Despair and the original Hell Keep. Also the Jag and 32X versions didn't have either the Cyberdemon or the Spider Mastermind, unlike the GBA, PSX and SNES versions.

The only way to actually play doom64 is on the n64. The TC is really good, but I consider it more of an 'incentive' to go out and buy a damn n64 just for that game. Its worth it.

Yeah, I remember when I played that level for first time, the music was very scary, and not to mention the dark atmosphere. The library place was probably the most spookiest part of the level.

Ultimate Doom Episode 4 hasn't got really that great level design in my opinion, most of the maps use mostly few "main" textures. E4M3 is a good example, wood texture covered all over the map, obviously the levels are meant to offer tough gameplay. Episode 4 is a good challenge though.

I like pretty much all Doom games, I prefer the PSX version of [Doom/Final Doom] over any other version, a feeling I feel different from the PC version, like a "darker, lonelier" feeling. I found the Final Doom for the PC, the TNT and Plutonia had many of the tougher monsters (Revenant, Mancubus, are a couple of what I mean) overdone in places, especially the Chaingunners, as an example, kind of like in levels Metal and Stronghold, while in Doom 2, I found they were placed better, but thats just my opinion, I loved many of the levels from those two packs, mainly though, the ones that were chosen, like for the Playstation version of Final Doom, as this may sound strange, I liked how rare the Mancubi were in the Final Doom Psx (one level only). But being that I play the PC version of Doom many times, never tiring, but still, I am more of a Playstation Doom kind of guy :).

Actually, I have to agree--I much prefer the first three episodes. Episode 4 has very cunningly designed levels that are obviously designed to challenge the player, but they don't really have any kind of thematic coherence, pacing, or visual artistic value. They're just pure technique and they bore me.

But the 1st 3 episodes are still in Ultimate Doom. Unless that added switch in e1m1 just ruins the whole game for you.

Heh, no, but I think the point of distinguishing Doom from Ultimate Doom /is/ to focus on E4. Sure, there are minor tweaks throughout the game, but the fundamental difference is the new episode.
And I'm just not that keen on that new episode. Hence, I prefer the original Doom over Ultimate Doom.
Inga-KX
September 14th, 2004, 01:10 AM
Still, that just stupid, there's no change for ending scenes or something, you play the first 3 episodes and start the remaining one if you want so. Having the 4th available doesn't affect the others. It's ok if you say "I dislike Thy Flesh Consumed" but "I prefer original Doom over Ultimate Doom"...no sense for me.

Doom64 wasn't Doom to me, it looked great (years later Jdoom made a re-masterpiece of it) but it didn't feel like Doom, specially due the horrible sprite replacements, but basically, if it was your first Doom ever, then I'd understand why you like it that much, all those games we are introduced to for the very first time, hold certain amount of "magic" :)
