DD said I can post screen shots so I will :)

Map 19, maybe showing them off will help with ideas on what to call it ^^;

http://eternalends.d-nation.org/NDCP/NDCP19-1.gif
Now does this look like the work of a noob that, as I've been told, don't know what I'm doing and shouldn't even be touching wads?

Rest of the screenshots are here (http://eternalends.d-nation.org/NDCP/)

PS: forgot to say, there are -no- item/object/monster placement yet (aside keys). all thats added when the level layout is finished.

Thos are you're textures? O.o
Heh, trying to think of what to do with them isn't easy for me.. It's hard to come up with ideas and ways to use textures unless there my own. As is the resorce wad don't have much in the lines of textures I'd really use, aside a few.. So it didn't give me very much to work with ^.^;;;

Thats my cross texture. ;)

Nice looking map -Ki-

People started calling me a noob cause I use to ask for help in the #legacy irc channel, help in FragleScript (now that I AM a noob at)

...........someone added to the bot in there to say I'm sector illiterate.. I don't care if it's a 'joke' or not.. I don't take it as such.. It gets you to where even if you need help you don't want to ask for any cause of the worry you'll be made fun of and stuff.. ..like I'm having some probs with the circle skylight thing in shot 5.. it seems to wanna make a 'hole' or something.. (you can see it in the screenshot x.x)

So thats ya cross texture? Cool. ^.^ When I get to the parts that I may use my own textures on then I'll add them to the resorce wad.. I wont add them now cause I add textures as I need them. Just so no space is wasted.

Unless you want me to add them in now so others can use them? O.o

What happens in #legacy, stays in #legacy, especially when comments are taken completely out of context.

Anyways, Looks nice. ;)

If Ki wants to say what happens in the Legacy Chat room that is her bussness :p and besides, people always use that "out of context" excuse when they want to hide what they said, so there. :p :p :p 4 tongues for you.

Well I don't like being called a noob at MAPPING just cause I ask for help in fraglescript. And when that one told me I should't even bother touching maps cause I didn't know what I was doing..(and I know the guy was not jokeing when he told me that) It makes me want to strangle them! FS is all new to me, I've only been useing it for a few months, so no duh I don't know every little tinny thing with it..

again, I don't care of you guys are 'jokeing' or not on some of the things. (like with that bot). I don't take it as such. It's not a 'comment' to make fun of someone when they ask for help..

Well, there obviously is a difference of opinion here, and before accusations start flying around and 'he said/she said' posts, lets get back on topic.

I like the browns and the grey at the tops, nice choice of texuring there.

//edit you posted before me
I admit to being party to that whole 'incident', but how is this going to help the situation. What would help solve any conflict/misunderstanding is to talk to any involved persons on a serious basis. What happened in #Legacy was at least a few months ago, and since then people/we/I of offered our help support, and encouragement with your mapping/scripting. :). No hard feelinhgs? (BTW, I dont like the idea of demis being used like that much either.. even if it is a joke).

I know what it's like to want to strangle somebody who said something idiotic. Just the other day I wanted to strangle somebody who said some dumb crap in my forum..... but that was different. Still it is annoying and totally unnesessary.

Anyhow you obviously do good work -Ki- and I'm glad your helping us work on the NDCP megawad. I'm surely not the only one who looks forward to checking out your map.

As for the Resource wad.... send it along when you wish. Now I go map!

wow DRAMA!!! cool beans, almost as fun as a msn romance chatroom.

KI, you did good, we have a tradition of not picking on noobs here so even though you werent a noob its good you brought that crap out in the open so maybe folk will be a bit less thoughtless in future.

You say that as if there's some terrible conspiracy going on, when to me at least it all seems quite simple and harmless. I must point out however that I'm sticking up for the channel here rather than the actions of any indivduals.

Ki, as I understand it the 'sector illiterate' thing is a kind of running joke that refers solely to the fact that nobody could figure out what was wrong with your 'teeheee' map which, lets face it, well drawn though it be was a joke wad at best. That's been removed now anyway, although we did name Demis in your honour, which is an achievement in itself.

As for whomever rather rashly told you never to map again (which I vaguely remember, though I don't recall exactly who said it), I think that was simply out of frustration, caused by the fact that you would often get the arse and start spouting abuse and/or just leave in a huff whenever we tried to explain things, which quickly becomes tiresome. We (myself, frades, exl, toxicfluff, iori, planky and others) almost always do our best to help when we can so don't be afraid to ask just because one person snapped and told you you suck.

By the way, I've looked through all my logs and I can't find a single example of you being referred to as a noob (or more correctly, n00m) :)

Now, getting on topic and issuing a friendly stfu to all concerned, I think that map looks exceedingly shiny and I particularly like the use of those textures (which are also very shiny mystic) and also the use of gradient lighting which is most effective. Just one word of advice:I'm doing MAP20, so try not to upstage me too much :D

Ki, dont let that little squabble in the other forum get you down ok, Ive been using wintex for years and still it sometimes wont let me do stuff I know Ive done with it before. I have stupid little problems all the time with my texture/sound wads, with deepsea too, I can never work out how to use that XWE though (or whatever its called). Seeing the instructions given for it in that forum Im glad I never learned how to make it work. I will make some screengrabs for how to add sounds in wintex and post a link to them in here tomorrow.

-Ki-
July 22nd, 2004, 10:14 PM
I got someone to stop and tell me how to ass custom sounds to wintex with out bitching or stuff.. and tell it clearly and explan -all- the steps to do to do it with ease.

It's just stupid.. I ask for one thing and get shit thrown at my face.. >.<

Mapping for DooM is full of non-trivial annoyances. Why anyone would flame you for asking is beyond me.

Excellent screens. I was originally supposed to do map19 but I never got anywhere with it and don't have time. Yours is looking much better. What I had in mind for my map will probably become a Legacy map in the far-flung future.

Meanwhile I should get back to my detailed slaving over map10, which still lacks a name.

Your map looks like the embodiment of what DooM II should look like. Not only are you not a mapping n00b (n00m?) but you have artistic talent to boot! :D

Thanx :) Something few know of is that I am an Artist. as in Drawing (stuff from fanart, fantasy, to RL stuff), painting and the such. Think thats where I got being a detail freak from ^.^;;; There's always something more that can be added *hippie*

So you were the one who was doing map19? Ya'know if you got any ideas I'd like to hear :) I'm a little...stumped on a few areas in my map. :o

Heh.. I should take updated screenshots. ^.^;;

My idea for map19 was an old UAC base that had been transplanted to Hell and been severly damaged. The player would have had to go through some Hell caves to get through the middle of the map. I just couldn't find a design that worked.

I decided to give up that map because I was busy being a detail freak on map10 anyway.

-Ki-
July 23rd, 2004, 06:27 PM
I don't know waat my map is yet ^.^;; I tend to start a map with no real idea as to what it is.
Guess mine could be an outpost base or something that would fit a brick/wood/small metal theme. Right now I got a few rooms that I am just compleatly stumped on what to put into them, cause there med to large sized rooms.

It sucks that there isn't any animated waterfalls in the resorce file >.<

Mystic
July 23rd, 2004, 08:22 PM
ahh good I dont have to fart about in wintex now.

Rooms dont really need stuff in them, add a few pillars or alcoves in the wall, a couple of computer screens. doesnt matter, when playing Im too busy looking for monsters to notice little details.

FATAL
July 24th, 2004, 12:22 PM
I like to watch the details. It depends on the gamer I guess.

-Ki-
July 24th, 2004, 06:53 PM
I like maps with a lot of detail plus gameplay. Something that even if you're going all for it, you might stop for a moment and check stuff out. Plus detail helps make an area stick in you're mind :P

Mystic
July 24th, 2004, 08:40 PM
I find fancy details get me killed in deathmatch maps, when I stop to admire it, like when playing GothicDM or fetalDM7.
