How can I disable the screen flash when picking up items in jdoom?

Maybe by editing the COLORMAP/PLAYPAL? That's just a pure guess, but in some of Mark Klem's wads he modified the colormap and playpal to get rid of the red-screen upon taking damage (bad idea IMO, but it achieved the effect he wanted).
