View Full Version : Looking fo an old, long lost IWad - anyone have this...?

I'm looking for an ancient custom episode for the original Doom called 'Hades House of Horrors', that was pretty widely available back in the 90s.
The wad was not a conversion, and used all the original Doom entities and artwork, the only 'new' things were the music score which replaced the original soundtrack with classical music, and the intro screen/demos.
The title 'Hades House of Horrors' was used within the custom intro screen - the actual Iwad name was something like DoomEP5 (I forget exactly).
I'd like to recover this old episode for sentimental reasons, so if anyone has it, or even news of it could you please let me know.
Cheers : Ffabbia

Searchy searchy... (http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?search&page=1&field=filename&word=hhh-&sort=time&order=asc)
Not an iwad of course, but then it couldn't (legally) have been.

My fault. It's a few years since I had to think about these sort of terms. I was sort of thinking that a PWad was a 'single level' whereas an Iwad was a collection of wads put together in an episode. I simply forgot. :o To clear matters up, the wad I am after is NOT a commercial product. It was home-produced by a person or group of persons using something like DEU.
Thanks for the link. The files you linked me two are sadly just two rather average individual levels for Doom, rather than the episode that I was after and have nothing in common. Ironic that they have the same name. Oh well. Thanks anyway for your efforts, they are appreciated.

Ffabbia,
Yes, I remember this one, and you're right ... it seems to have disappeared off the face of the 'Net. A shame, as I rather enjoyed this episode, too.
Good news though, 'cause I've just dug out a CD archive I made of all my floppies before throwing them out years ago. And: it's on it!! Your memory's not doing too badly either, as it's called EP5A.WAD, and it does indeed replace the in-game music with classical tracks. I just loaded it up with GLBoom and it works a treat.
[Edited to remove link to my uploaded version, as Grazza has found it elsewhere - see below.]
Right: I'm off to load it up again now. Happy days!

That's a nice find.
I see (having got the filename from DuffPaddy's file) that it is also available online in the Mr Rocket database (http://www.newdoom.com/hosted/dlw/MRD.shtml) (the zip has a different name - DM_EP5.ZIP - but the wad inside it is the same), under COMBOS. If you need a direct link, it is here (ftp://ftp.doom.odessa.ua/Ron/COMBOS/DM_EP5.ZIP).

Thanks, Grazza. I may as well remove my file now.
Unfortunately, having just IDCLEV-ed my way through it, it seems that there's one or two ugly HOM effects in places. Not sure why; I'm pretty sure it was OK under DOS Doom.

You sometimes get problems like that in OpenGL mode, even with wads that work fine in the original game or with software rendering.

did it work? i just love the way people and my self want to play original wads again, like me with Doom 64 , that means the replay value is good

Yeah, it did work. There are a couple of small graphics glitches when played with JDoom with texture pack, MD2 models etc.. (Lost Souls look very odd), but that is a minor inconvenience.
I forgot how violent some of those maps are lol! One of them features a room with around 200 imps, led by a Baron. Blasting rockets into the horde, until I run out and then chewing up the rest with the chaingun takes ages...but it's great fun!!
