View Full Version : TNT2 and Direct3D

Alright, my dilemma.
I have a computer at school that I'm trying to get Doom Builder to work with. It's a Pentium4 2.4 with this TNT2 model64 in it. I used to use the exact same card at home (bundled with my computer), so I know it has direct3d capabilities. But I can't run any d3d apps, and when I go into dxdiag it says that d3d and direct draw acceleration are not available, and I can only test the direct draw aspect of it. I have the newest nVidia drivers on this (winXP with all privilages) and Directx9.0b. This is making me mad, because the problem is probably something so simple, but I can't think of it. Suggestions welcomed with open ears and a closed mind ;).

Is Direct3D and stuff enabled in dxdiag (the buttons that say "Enable\disable") ?

Theyre greyed out :/
I mean this is bullshit. I looked in the box and have the exact same card at home, in the staticfree wrap

I'm suspecting those features are disabled in the registry or somewhere else. This might help a bit, but didn't give me anything solid: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=184251

Try this:
Right click on your desktop
Click on "Proporties"
(this take you to display settings)
Choose the "Settings" tab
Then Click "Advanced" button
(This will open the Plug-n-Play Monitor)
Choose the "Troubleshot" tab
Move slider to FULL and then go to dxdiag and see if it unlocked the settings. If not try a reboot then dxdiag. If it's already set to full.... I don't know what to tell yeah. :P

I have a hunch that if you updat the driver it might work. It sounds like a driver issue to me and I have had things like that happen but things may be disabled on your school computer.

When I found out it didnt work, I immediately updated the driver, to no effect.

Maybe they disabled accelaration in the latest driver so you would have to upgrade. I hope I'm wrong but trying a different version might not be a bad idea, any 3dMark '03 "optimizations" aren't going to help you. I'd say try the Detonator's (I heard good things about 44.03) instead.

Try reinstalling dx9.
The newest nVidia driver (Forceware 56.72) works fine with the TNT M64. I've still got one in one of my other machines.
The 44.03 driver was the least stable one I've seen, with the FX series anyway, and it wouldn't run vice city at all.

that is because the detonators were made before the FX line (for the most part). They are intended to anything prior to the FX line.

44.03 was the second release after the 5200 came out, about 2 months later I think. It was fairly unstable with other cards too, including my TNT2 and GF2 MX400. It is however supposedly the last nVidia driver release that will properly run the *cough* doom 3 alpha *cough* ;)

You should see a docter about that cough.
I think its the last driver that has Z-Occlusion enabled in the GF4.

yeah, I heard Alphatitus has been going around so you should go to the doctor and get a checkup. :p
