ok, i had the idea and made this (http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?p=37182#37182) post at the ZDoom forums. but if your too lazy here is what i posted

i had the crazy idea of using a poly object as a 3d sector, but i all to quickly found out that it dosn't work. (the poly object fills the the game sector in which it appears from floor to cieling!)

so, i was thinking that there may be a way. my idea: create a line type(s) to define a dummy sector's floor and cieling hiegths (and textures) as that of a poly object's. that way we could have 3d floors in ZDoom, and, because they would be poly objects, they would be a lot more versatile than Legacy's 3D sectors. just thought i would post it here as well, get a few more eyes to pass over it. anybody think it is possible, though?

i think it would kickass.

Does Zdoom even support 3d sectors...?
I was under the impression that it didnt....

no it dosn't. thats why i thought this was such a great idea.

some of them over there tell me that it isn't possible, some tell me that it would be possible, but they all say it would be a major rewrite in ZDoom to get it to work, and it would still be a hack, at best.

A lot of people over at the zdoom forums still think that Legacy's 3d floors are a cheap object hack, like what was demonstrated 4 or so years ago. I dont know how the more ignorant of them might take your post, especially if they still think that they're just a hack... It is a neat idea though.
Are you thinking about moving platforms and stuff? If so, there is the added problem of BSP and collision. I dont know if an item would be able to 'ride' on top of a moving polyobject, and there seem to be many complications that might arise. That said however, I am not an expert on the properties of polyobjects; of how they interact with things aside from my own observations in-game. Good luck with that at any rate.

Nothing's impossible. But a lot of things are hard. Right now polyobjects aren't really a sector, but more like an infinitely tall object inside a sector. But you probably got that already form the ZDoom folks. This concept is hard to change, because they would hardly be polyobjects anymore.

Logic Deluxe's experiments with warping sectors using a polyobject which shares vertices with other sectors is pretty damn interesting though.

I don't get what is so grand about ZDoom's so called 3d floors.. it's just stupid objects over a 2 sided ughly looking crossing linedef's, and all that is for is to let you see the path of the floor objects..

when legacy has true soled and extreamly easy to make -REAL- 3d floors.. how can them brainless fools clame it's a buggy object hack?! theres no bugs in it unless you got no clue what in the world you're doing!
