I hate to admit it, but I do own a PS2 and it...

...collects a lot of dust.

Granted it has Half-Life and that new Warhammer 40K game which looks good, plus Sony actually allows USB and Keyboard support for most of there FPS games which is one nice feature considering that there analog controlls are WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Y
to loose to even consider playing a FPS with.

I also am a proud owner of Microsloth's XBOX, as an old skool Amiga based hater of all that is Microsloth, I have to give them props for making good hardware, and taking advantage of there money to give us a ass-load of hardware for a super cheap price!

Where the PS2 has more of in Quantity, the XBOX has more in Quality and originality, which means that the PS2 is overhyped with its VAST collection of "clones of clones of clones" which but put nothing much beyond what I've already experienced on my Dreamcast.

Another groovy thing about the XBOX is depsite the fact that Microsloth is too gay to allow for Keyboard and Mouse support for anything aside of PSO, they do at least have the BEST analog controlls ever! Infact I now actually prefer there button lay out over the PS2's and I thought that day would never come.

As a guys who plays nothing but FPS' and RPG's pretty much, I'd suggest:

Halo
Metal Arms (it plays like a FPS)
Time Killers 2 (half the levels rule, plays like Perfect Dark)
N64 emulation (mod that puppy)
Wolfenstein
QuakeX
Quake2X LE
Duke Nume'm 3D (bugs being worked out, but it will be in V1.0 soon!)
DOOM Legacy (we're supposed to be getting it sometime..., soon as the source improves I reckon)
007: Agent Under Fire
007: Night Fire
Armed & Dangerous (plays like FPS once again, very Monty Pythonish)
Breakdown (AWSOME)
Counter Strike
Jedi Knight II
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Red Faction II (meh... if your desparate it gets decent)
Serious Sam (parts 1 and 2 included)
The Suffering (can be played in FPS)
Turok Evolution
Unreal Championship
Unreal Championship 2
Unreal 2 (I'd rather it were part 1)
XIII
DOOM
Half Life 2
Halo 2
and others who I can't recall at the moment.

I HATE Medal Of Honor's with a passion though.

The PS2's dvd player is pure ass, why do you need one built into teh console, especially if you have one already?

Yes, Metroid Prime was an awesome FPS, and Prime 2 looks promising as well. Why rule out the gamecube?

HyperFlash

Because the controls suck for the gamecube, that's why.

He JUST said he didn't have one. Are you that blind? :-/

I really don't have anything nice to say about the XBOX, BUFF STUFF. I've never touched one, and never will.

*hugs his PS2*

/me can't wait for GTA 5 this fall

Nomad: Basically I just looked at the title. And dont make fun of blind people :p

Hyperflash: the analog pads on the Xbox and GCN are roughly in the same place, and both controllers are comfortable. Unless you have horrendously fatty hands, then both controllers are equally efficient. That 'argument' holds no validity whatsoever.

The Xbox DVD player is really nice. But it looks like you already made up your mind. :)

Sony's DVD playback is HORRIBLE. I just hooked my friend up with a MODed XBOX, and he can't believe how much better the playback is!

Thankx for the compliment Buff Stuff:

I forgot to mention the highly underated title: Mace Griffin (a little steep on story, and a little buggy, but WELL worth playing through). And we are getting Riddick, TimeKillers, two new Starwars FPS's, oh ya and we got Deus Ex 2, and Judge Dread. There's more I'm sure i'm forgetting, or not mentioning on purpose for your protection I.E. Robocop aaack! :)

I'd advise MODing your XBOX and saving that cash on the DVD remote which you don't need then...

...of course this bans you from XBOX live, but there is of course a Free Alternative.

MODing is pretty simple, ecspecially without a MOD chip, and it opens up doors to a but load of homebrew softs, emulators, PC ports, media players, OS's, ect ect ect!

Of course if you don't want to MOD, you still can't beat the deal:

At EB you pay $150.00 plus $20 back via mail for a new XBOX with controller.
This means fore a mere $130.00 plus tax you get a near 800Mhz CPU (upgradable to 1.4Ghz once MODed), NVIDIA GeForce GFX with more polys and effects than available on the PS2 and Game Cube, 64Mb of RAM (upgradable to 128 once MODed), 1 controller, 10Gb Hard Drive (upgradable once MODed), no need for memory cards, 4 joypad ports, DVD Playback, Internet ready, ect.

On the other hand you could fork out:

PS2 $170.00
This gives you half the CPU power, half the RAM, half the controller ports, crappy DVD playback, and of course the controller (which is not suitable for FPS').

40Gb Hard Drive (not upgradable) $80.00

oh but wait, you can't plug in the Hard Drive without the Network adaptor...

Network Adaptor $40.00

Oh, can't save games to Hard Drive.

PS2 Memroy Card $20.00

Oh wait, can't save old PS1 titles to the PS2 memory card!

PS1 Memory card. $10.00

Let's see:

That brings up to about $320...

ya.... logical choice. :)

You can get the DVD Remote/Playback thing for the Xbox for $6-$10 off of eBay. I got mine for $6+$2 shipping.

WOW! I may just grab one for the heck of it then, considerin that they recently hacked the default XBOX DVD player to play any region DVD's...

...though on the othe hand the XBOX Media Center will always be un-replaceable for the fact that you can skip commecials on DVD's that usually don't allow that. :)

Whatya recon is the one for me?

really depends on what games you like
driving and beat em up games i think are better on PS2 and theres alot of those kind of games for PS2....trust me!!!

X-box.....well ,to be honest didnt really take me,i mean its basically a mobile PC but wasnt apealling!

basically if you want to play doom3 and know that you dont need to upgrade your pc becos doom3 x-box will be made just for that particular console...buy the x-box cos you wont need to have to go out there and waste so much money upgrading your PC just so you can play one game.AND its going to have online and co-op TOGETHER!!

New break, PS2 is now $140, so now it is only $290.00 after you get all the add ons to bring it to half the XBOX's specs!!!

What a bargain! :)

You can still probably find a Dreamcast, for $50 or less. And that's better than both the NerdBox and PS2. :p

The only downside with it, is no DVD player. Hell, it'll even play old PSX games with Bleem.

The only thing the PS2 has on it, is the DVD player. Might have been one of the reasons that the PS2 devoured it (aside from Sony's advertising shoving the system down everyone's throat).

Dreamcast rules, but the XBOX has so much horse power, it's like an arcade Jukebox with no discs needed! :)

BUFF STUFF: Hacking is pretty simple if you know how to handle a soldering Iron. There are all sorts of guides on xbox-scene.com, but if you get one, I could walk you through and supply the needed software to MOD it. Without a MOD chip that is. :)

The soldering only requires you to solder two points which are not hard to reach, and are not too close to any other wires which is a GOOD thing. :)

Basically if you want to save a couple bucks and have all the tools you need to hack your friend's XBOX, you just pick up a used copy of
007: Agent Under Fire $12.00
An official XBOX memory card $20.00
An XBOX extension cable $5.00
And a spare USB cable. (cheap if not free)
Spool of Thin Solder $1.50
Soldering Iron $10.00
Long Tork Screw Driver set $5-10.00

You'll use the screw drivers to open your XBOX, which by the way opens like a toy.
You then remove the DVD-ROM and Hard Drive just like you would on a PC.

You'll refer to a couple sample pictures that I can provide you with, to see what kind of mother board you have (there are only 2 or 3 types basically), then locat the two points you need to solder, and add a little dab to each real quick, and make sure there connected with a magnifying glass.

You'll then make a quick adapter with the XBOX and USB extension cable, so that you can hook up your XBOX pad to your PC.

You'll then load up the drivers and Memory Managment software and put a special game save hack (that I'll provide to you) onto your memory card.

Then you boot up the XBOX, copy the game save onto your XBOX hard drive with the built in XBOX memory manager, then load up 007: AUF.

From there you simply boot the game, load the game save, at which point the screen goes black and plays some experimental Trip-Hop in the back ground, at which point you'll simply Telnet into your XBOX, write a short command that tells the XBOX to flash the BIOS, and it will do it, reboot itself, and your hacked.

You will erase the game save, copy a new one I'll send to you, load up 007, load the new game save, and you will reboot into a menu this time which will allow you to FTP to your XBOX, at which point I'll give you software to put on it, which will be your new dash for loading up games, emus, media programs, OS's and the like, after that, the learning is EASY, just like a kid's computer! :)

Sounds like a lot, but it is REALLY easy so long as you can handle a pencil steady, or better yet have soldered something before (if not find someone who has, or practice on some wires a bit, it don't take much for this).

when your ready, that is if you decide to transform your XBOX into the ultimate console! :)

Not in America at least, we always seem to take the crumbs from the table and run with it!

And yes, I know it is all about game library. My reference is merely pointing out that the XBOX is capable of beautiful things that no other console can pull off as far as emulation and what not goes. For instance, can you burn a crap load of AVI files to a DVD and watch them on the Dreamcast? Or can you play Super Smash Brothers full speed on a Dreamcast?

That's what I mean by horse power, but while I'm at it, the XBOX's GTA's look 1,000 times better than the PS2 version, not that I like the game, it controlls like a dead horse when your not in a car, but I thought I'd bring that up. ;)
