Hey All

Im Having Some Trouble Combining 2 Partitions
I Tried Twice But Failed, The Second Time Almost Destoryed My Hard Drive :( Thank God For Scandisk Its Back To Normal....
AFAIK Anyway *rolleyes*

Anyway I Used Partition Magic To Do Thise Since It Has A Feature That Lets Me Merge Them
I Think The Main Problem Is That The Cluster Size Needs To Be The Same For Each Partition, Of Course There Not :P
So I Tried To Chnage it On One And Then It Failed
Then I Tried To Chnaged It On The Other, It Worked. And When It Just Started To Merge. It Failed
Now Since It Almost Screwed My Hard Drive. Im Not Going To Try It Again *book*
Id Rather Seek Proffesional Help. If There Is Any Here *bug*

Partition magic is the program i use to combine partitions, never had a problem with that. course, what OS are you using, you could use disk management if you have 2000 or XP (i think you can merge with that, never tried tho, never played with it enuf)

I never had any luck doing this either, I usualy use the Windows Bakup or backup just the data I need and just use FDISK from a Win98boot disk. Then reinstall the O/S, resore Backup.

Yep. FDISK pwns j00.
:D hahahahahahaha Yep, If reistalling XP or 2000, just format for NTFS if you like when you install it. :D I always have a working 98 bootdisk handy.

well, i know formating will do the trick
but i was hopping to try other stuff before i did that
i hate formating = bad :(

ok, i got a new plan
since some files were damaged on the partition
i have decided to format it. nothing bad at all
it wasent the system partition. i do i have a backup of all the files on another hard drive
which i was doing in the first place. i was moving the files from this partition to a new hard drive. so i didnt need this partition anymore

anyways, when i format from my computer, it gives me the option to set the cluster size. so im hopinh after doing this
it will merge just fine. and i dont have to worry about damaging files.
the files that were damaged had 0 bytes and the files were all in the same folders. only 10% of them were damaged i think
now it sounds like a virus attacked my computer. tho i scanned these files and there was no infection

I usually pop in my mandrake cd and use teh partition manager take care of resizing and/or merging partitions - once it's done writing the new partition info, I just restart the computer - without linux being installed :D

hahaha thats funny, never thought of doing that, though it takes longer for that to load than the self-booting 2 floppy version of Partition Magic 8.0, that thing works great

I wanted to do the same thing because I didn't think win2k would need a bigger partition than 2gigs when I installed it and now my H drive (dual boot/ win98 is on C) is down to 200mb of free space and I'm constantly fighting to keep garbage from eating the last 200mb's. I tried Partition Magic but I don't think it's safe to fuck with the partition win2k is on. Meh I need to do a complete reinstall.

well, i didnt merge the partitions
i resized them, i made the system as big as i could and the other half as small as i could, which was 177mb :)
so i just deleted the small one and i have a big one again
but i still lost 177mb, which is nothing i guess :p
i didnt have to format at all :D

liek I said, if you are unsure aobut something then do more research, I knew waht overclocking was basically when I started but when I did my research it helped a lot more.
