Anyone out there know of any Freeware Popup Blockers?
If there aren't any (or any worth trying,) what are the good purchasable ones?
(READ My range for spending on a Popup Blocker is somewhere between $10-25.)
I have a 56K modem and slow P3 (damn youy Compaq, damn you to hell!)

Use firefox as a browser. If you really dont want to change browsers, I heard Googles pop up blocker is good.

IE6 SP2 has one but who knows when it will be released outside of XP SP2.

pop up blockers sometimes block stuff thats SUPPOSED to come up, firefox is really good about distinguishing that stuff, lets the right stuff open and keeps the bad stuff at bay, even counts the stuff that it blocks if you get that plugin, or blocks flash ads if you get that plug in, it took me a while to switch but once i got the motivation to install it, i wont ever go IE again

FireFox is the future. FireFox is now!
Probably 99% of the folks here will recommend FF, so I suggest giving it a shot.
Though, with that 56k it'll take a while to download.
I also hear that this is a good popup killer; and it's free: http://www.panicware.com/popupstopper.html

FireFox sounds great, I've finally downloaded it, but...Juno won't f**king let go of me!
I have no idea on whether to put an access number, or my home phone number as the phone number!
Setting up this sh*t manually sucks!
Does Windows Encrypt your password (for your ISP account,) or something?!
IE won't even accept it!
*calms down while staring at a picture of a rose, drawn by the love of his life*
Damn...sh*t!
This sucks!
(I know I get hype when something sounds great, but doesn't work out...)

MOST ISPs will connect you with your username, your password and a phone number, and of course, a dial up networking connection.

Shareware, but it's awesome while it lasts. Gets rid of all ads possible.

*shudder* shareware... i'm not a fan of shareware, the ads they throw at you to compensate for not making money on that release directly... is horrifying

You checked that you just haven't picked up some awful adware from a dodgy site? The comps at my school are all riddled with it, download ad aware, to get rid of it, its free, and its not shareware. I had over 130 spywares and adwares on one of my comps, but only one was in my documents and settings folder, the rest were in my sisters.
While I was having a conversation with a friend about the popup program plugins you get on certain sites, she overheard and said "I don't care, I just click on yes all the time" I was just thinking WTF?

Someday someone's gonna make a give me your credit card number and format my drive ActiveX control and you know what people will still say yes.

lmao! sad but true. persoanlly firefox doesn't look much different then IE (accept some things are smaller) and the speed isn't much different but overall its much better, less ads. Its all good, I jsut hope you can get it to work on your computer.

I will never use IE ever again. Anything with "Mozilla" in it, is good.
It's really hard on a person when they're the mosy tech conscience in their family, and everyone else can't tell the difference between RAM and ROM.
My father had a computer problem the other day, and blamed it on me. I had admitidly, messed around with his settings. But I was just getting rid of AOL and all this other dumb crap from his start-up. I think I may have disabled the Messenger service as well. Anyway, the next day, he complained that IE wasn't working. I think, "That's odd."
He demands that it be fixed, and that it's my fault. So, I go in, and investigate. IE is certainly the problem. It gets an error. So, he leaves to the convineient store to pick some things up, leaving me to fix the problem. My solution, FireFox. I load it up from a back-up disc and open it, and sure enough, it works fine. I leave FF on yahoo and leave. When he comes back, he's even angrier.
"I WANT IE BACK!"
That still makes me shudder. I explain to him that FF is superior. His mind doesn't change.
Eventually, after removing the Sasser worm from his computer, twice, reinstalling our dial-up software, and getting a whole new problem, I remember the system restore function. I set it back to a month before, and he hasn't complained again.
And the funny thing is, the things I did to his computer in the first place, I've done to mine. And the only differences between the two machines, are hardware differences.
Working with the inept is a real chore.

i personally love Opera (http://www.opera.com). I experience some problems here and there, but mostly, i find it to be superior to ie in every way. Mouse gestures, built-in email, it's blazing fast, built-in instant messaging, built-in download manager, completely customizable, skins, etc. I invite anyone to check it out.

I am very tempted to post a link to a malicious webpage, but I will not. It has plenty of popups, but does not leave any permanent damage to your system. Its quite funny, and some of you may have already encountered it, it was posted on the Call of Duty forums, and someone got banned because of it. Thus, I will not post a link.

I am curious about this link as well, if its as bad as I think it is then I already found it.
Does it have one of those popups that when you close it they spawn like 5 or more populs and whn oyu close those they spawn more? In cases like taht the reset button works great, clears the whole damn screen.

sounds like my dad, if there is a problem then I am the obvious choice to blame, they don't listen to me because I am younger don't know anything and they have already experienced it all. Now I don't even touch his comptuer, even if its to uninstall any of my stuff, I just let it float on there. I uninstalled a faulty stick of ram since it was dead and my dad doesn't knwo he only has 256Mb of ram. I plan on upgrading his ram and motherboard (have a spare I865PE MSI motherboard) but I need to find a time when they are gone long enough and have enough time to restore everything but its just a pipe dream, even though I pitty my dads half working XP installation. Its best to let it be I guess.
