Painkiller? ... I rather take some valium...
OK. I ordered the game... it was delayed... canceled the order... ordered again... delayed again... now it lay around at the post office for 2 days because I came home late... I got it today... I installed it... at least I tried... several times... but the fucking shit keeps giving me an error when trying to install a file called "textures.pak" on the 2nd of 3 discs!!! *angry* Fuck, I can't stand the shit no more! That's what you get for being honest and buying a game! Delays, tons of discs instead of a comfortable DVD, not working games... that was the fucking last pc game I bought for at least the next year! I'm sick of spending money for unnecessary discs, erroreous beta games and uninnovative sequels!!! That's it!!! *burn* Some 1000 kids out there, who downloaded the game play it at this moment, and I, who spent 40 bucks for it, have to deal with such a fuck! *chuck*

I MAY have solution to your problem. First of all, copy the contents of the cds into a separate folders in your hard drive.
Then Start the setup program from the first cd as usual.
Then start the install, and guide the install program to the folders you copied the cds to. Now they shouldn't have any problems at all.
Or maybe the cd is scratched, or your cd-rom drive has broken (I don't believe it though).
Yes, most likely a scratched cd is the case.

The cd was new, first time I used it. But I think I found the problem. Both my DVD-Rom and my DVD-Burner couldn't install from the cd. Neither worked copying the content on the hd, it gave me a crc error. But I tried out several CD-Roms now (good to have some pcs at home), and I could copy the data on all of them, without problems! Sp the disc seems to have compatibility issues with DVD-drives (found somethin similar to my problem in the Painkiller forums, too). So I copied the files on my other pc, moved them on my main pc over the network and burned them all on a DVD! :D I'm happy again, the game rocks!

I could've told ya if I had noticed this thread before that a LOT of game CD's have problems during installation when using DVD/CD drives. Seen my brother try to install Max Payne II and other games with the DVD drive and he had to use his CD drive instead. heh.

The problem ist that I don't have a CD-drive in my gaming rig at all. All DVD, rom and burner. thank god I have enough other pcs and my network! :)

Hard to play - no (playing easiest mode)
Hard on the hardware - yes. In level "Asylum" my rig gets too slow. Had to reduce details. Don't know why, though, other levels run better, and have more detail... But the game needs a lot of power for full detail. I have an XP2800+, 1 gig of RAM and a GF4 TI4600 (nothing special, but not the slowest neither). But the game itself is great! Speaking of great, you should have seen my face when I encountered teh first boss... *jawdrop* "Huge" is no description of what it is!!! :)
