hi, i am having trouble loading external WADs.

1st here r my system specs:

Windows 98 (4.10, Build 2222) B
AMD Duron Processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~700MHz
128MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)
TNT2 M64/M64 Pro graphics card with 32MB RAM
VIA AC'97 Audio (VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM) )
Soundblaster sound card, OPTi Plug-N-Play Sound System (i use it only when i'm playing Doom)

i am using version 1.7.14 of Doomsday.

i just got the Master Levels for Doom 2 today and i am trying to load the WADs from there but i don't seem to be having any luck doing so.

i have tried loading external WADs using methods 1, 2 & 3 on the faq page of doomsdayhq.com

with method 1 (loadng from the console) it attempts to load a WAD i specify but it just goes back to the Doom2 title screen. with method 2 (the -file option) it just ignores the WAD i specify and goes to the Doom2 title screen. with method 3 (using KickStart's WAD list) it also ignores the WAD i specify. why won't it load external WADs? *angry*

i have read the FAQ at doomsdayhq.com to no avail.

i have also read every document file in the Doomsday doc directory and i cannot find out why it won't load external WADs.

also i am using the 3D models with Doomsday. if this helps at all.

have i set up something wrong? or am i just overlooking something obvious?

please could u get back to me ASAP about this problem?

Well theres nothing wrong with your system, my friend played JDoom with his TNT2 M64, while the fan on his 5600 was bust. Try checking the version of your wadfile (there are tons of threads on here about this), or, you could try reinstalling Doomsday with a fresh install in a new directory.

thanx, i already figured out how to load external WADs.

my WAD version is 1.9 which is the last version to be released. and i have both WADs for Doom 2, the one with the 2 secret levels and also the one w/o the secret levels :D

i figured it out just a few mins after i logged off these forums. funny how that always seems to happen to me.

if any1 else has trouble with this just follow these steps. (this is for the Master Levels for Doom2):

put the wad or wads u want to load into the data directory, eg. C:\_Doomsday\Data\jDoom

then

1. load up Doomsday KickStart.
2. select Doom 2 from the profiles list
3. once at the title screen go to new game
4. select skill setting (then u will be in game, make sure u r in game b/c if ur not then the game will crash at step 5)
5. warp to level number using idclev cheat
(eg. to warp to level 25 type in the console:
cheat idclev25)
6. type in the console:
load <wadname>.wad (<wadname>.wad is the name of the wad u want to load)
7. type in the console again:
cheat idclev25 (or whichever map u loaded up)
8. the level shall load before thine very eyes :)

oh yeah, also the first time u load an external wad make sure to put it in the wads list on the WADs tab in Doomsday KickStart so that the GWA file gets created. otherwise u will have holes in walls, ceilings, etc which is not good.

You don't have to use cheat idclev xx, you can actually just use warp xx, and just use god, for 'degreelessness mode', I love that term.

The .gwa file contains GL nodes that turn surfaces in game in polygons, unlike regualr .bsp nodes.

I wasnt aware that the game crashed at step 5, but I use the warp command, It just makes the skill level 'Hurt me pLenty'.

the warp command never works for me. it always says "warp failed" for some reason that i don't know *shrugs*

and i always play on 'Hurt me pLenty'.
