Old games are so... old. They aren't shiny, they have dinky sound, and are a pixelated mess. But they're classics. And the whole Emulation thing has now made it possible to relive all those old times in all their glory, and more.
What old games, (Genesis, Atari, NES, SNES, etc) do you play, do you play them on the computer (emulators+ROMs), or the way they were made?
I got a Logitech Dual Action controller last Tuesday, and it changed the way I play old games on my computer.
Some old games I'm currently playing, (paticularly SNES) are Kirby Super Star, Chrono Trigger, Lufia II, LOZ: Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, the R-Types series, and many nameless others. Any suggestions?

The XBOX is another great (and easy) way to relive the memories.
Titles I'd suggest:
About anything Aeon Genesis translated for the Super Nes.

I can burn any console emu up to the PSX with my dreamcast...with dubious framerates. I love that thing. I got into playing Chrono Trigger again the other day, boy is that fun.
Now, this IS an old school thread, So i also got a PC-Engine emu and played the [i]original[/] draculaX. :)

Cool stuff.
I've always wondered about Vectorman for the Genesis. Was it any good? And if so, where can I get an AMERICAN/ENGLISH version of the ROM.
Another thing, how about Game characters. One of the memorable ones in my mind right now is Earth-Worm Jim. What about you guys?

This topic is DOOMed. Please not that I did not begin it. ;)
Rhondo Of Blood...
Great game, just use the 1st ISO and MP3 files, rename them to how the emulator expects them to be, and load it up. Best solution unless your emu does not allow that.
I'm eager to see how Hugo pans out on the Dreamcast. It's already great on the XBOX, but this would be even kooler, considering the Dreamcast's low price, small size, and well...
just the thought of it! :)

Hugo is an old adventure game made by sierra. You know the quest series, right? It looks just like they, but Hugo's house of horrors is just something unique.
One of my favourite old school games is Stunts. Man the toughest opponent (Skid Vicious was the name if I remember correct) Was hard to beat when I was just a kiddo. Stunts had a track editor, over 10 different real life cars, AI with 6 different difficulties, and cars with gears ;)
Other one that I remember now is the adventures of capitain comic. That was a one hell of a legend for me. I never liked capitain comic 2 though...
Here's some other old school games I like:
- Hugo series
- Stunts
- Adventures of capitain comic
- Ski or die
- The incredible machine
- DooM!!!

Ahh I loved the quest games...well Quest for Glory anyway. I could never get my hands on the VGA Kings Quest: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow. I saw it a grand total of once, and have been searching for that game for years...

Hugo is a Turbo GFX 16 and Turbo CD emulator which is on the PC, has been ported (and a damn fine port it is) to the XBOX, and currently the author is either working or plans to work on porting it to the Dreamcast. Here's his page:
http://www.zeograd.com/
You should write him and express your interest in the Dreamcast port. ;)

Rhondo gets VERY VERY hard.
Also if you are Castlevania freaks you should check out:
Castlevania for the X68000 (also ported to the playstation 1)
and the Sega Saturn version of Symphony Of The Night which blows the PSX version away!!!
Of course there are also the 3 great Gameboy Advanced Castlevanias as well. :)

I emulate PSX, and I am trying to get my old library of PSX favs back together. I just got Darkstone not to long ago and I am relishing in its brilliance. Just found a great deal on Breath of Fire 4, it will soon be mine!
Anyone got any other underrated classics that I should know of (for the PSX, of course.)
Anyone else notice that when you play PSX games on the PS2 that mostly all 2d textures receive a black box around them. But when the emulate the same game on the PC (I currently use ePSXe, with Pete's D3D GPU) and use a couple of filters and get it looking pretty close to what the PS2 makes it look like, there are no black boxes. Anyone know the reason behind those black boxes?

I can't pimp this game out enough, man. Star Ocean: The Second Story is hands down, the closest thing to a masterpiece ever created for the PSX (in my opinion, of course). Dare I say, better than Final Fantasy. The story wasn't as good as FF7 or 8, but it was still great. The insane amount of features of the game (dozens of item creation abilities, among others), and its goddamn HUGEness are what get you. Yet hardly anyone I've talked to haven't ever heard of it... Very sad, considering how much I loved that game.

Hey Nomad I feel your pain, I too fell in love with Star Ocean The Second Story (never really beat it though, the End Boss in his second form is near impossible). I do not think Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (I think that's what it's called) will live up to its predecessor.
Any others?

For the Playstation?
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
The only two flaws: it's glyphs serve no purpose, and the ending is what kept it from being one of the greatest adventure games for the PSX.
Such a shame, the ending is...

I think if you play all five legacy of kain games the endings all add up to something cool. 'course I played Defiance without playing the first four so I had no idea what was going on...
