Pepsi's latest offer thingy is "100 million free songs on Itunes." Since I happen to drink a lot of Pepsi products (my grandma buys it in bulk from Sam's Club all the time), and I've got plenty of Metal and rock, I figure should get some more electronica in my diet.
So far, i've only got one song: "Chronic Tronic" by Amon Tobin. I've heard his stuff before, and so far it's my favorite one (next to Proper Hoodidge).
Anyone have any suggestions?

Listen to the streams at DigitallyImported.com, that will give you some good ideas. There's some great music on there.

I only know "Mainstream" techno/trance, and most people bash me for listening to it. Soooooooooo. heh! Anyway, I listen to a lot of Paul Oakenfold mixes and a lot of Darude.

There are some really interesting things out there if you look for them.
With free stuff, I usually just get stuff that I think has a cool name, as it costs nothing, and you can always bas e what you get next on what you thought of that.
The prodigy early stuff is quite techno, and you can get some of the BK stuff too, as he is rather good for electronica. Paul oakenfold is rather good too. Just try to start with names that you recognize, you can't lose out if it costs you nothing.

Well, the nice thing about iTunes, is that you can hear a 30 second clip of the song before you decide to get it.
I like some stuff by Prodigy anyway, but thats not really the kind of stuff I'm looking for. I tend to shy away from the more Dance oriented stuff. Not because I don't like it, but because it all sounds the same. I'm looking more for Experimental type stuff. Amon Tobin's album "Out, From Out Where" is a perfect example of what I want. He's got some good shit on there.
I've heard Aphex Twin and Squarepusher are good, but iTunes doesn't have anything from either one.... Oh well.

I listen to all my Techno / Electronic music on my LaunchCast station (http://launch.yahoo.com/lc/?rt=0&rp1=0&rp2=1218412757).
It has a fairly comprehensive collection, which includes Squarepusher and Aphex Twin.

What makes techno or trance cheesy?

The irritating "boom boom boom boom" of the bass drum, over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over and....
That's why I don't like Trance, but I don't know about Bomberman.

Trance can be quite annoying when the lyrics are always on about love. I like the techno but Trance is too boring and (usually) sappy.

I just love the bass drum boom boom boom boom :D

Most trance is usually very crappy, no matter what the lyrics are. It's the crappy unoriginal sounds it got. Psytrance and goa are much much better.

I like songs about love.
When you think about it a lot of pop music is actually quite subversive, Whitney Houston singing she wants to make love all night long, now if she isnt asking to be shagged Im a chinaman

Very true, Mystic. It's hard to find a pop song that isn't even remotely about sex.
That's one of the things I hate about modern music; doesn't really matter much if it's pop or not. Music is meant to tell a story, not bitch about your girlfriend leaving you on your skateboard, or how much you want to get laid.

Music is not meant to tell a story. The lyrics are for that purpose, though usually the lyrics are not more than just one sentence looped over and over again...
Music is sex or pain and torture for your ears.

I think what music is supposed to do depends on the intention of the person writing it and the listener, and isn't really one objective truth.
For me, I just like music to make me feel something, whether just with the music or that and the lyrics.

nice reply, I mostly go for music I can just sit back, close my eyes and relax while listening, a little escape from the pressures and stress of life.
On the other hand I sometimes like something noisy, like 'in my mind' by Milk Inc, theres no song just the sounds, Im not sure about labels but I think it might be under 'trance'. I think it might have been cobbled together on a pc using that rebirth software, a lot of the sounds are similar to the ones I get out of that.

Daft Punk is cool, but the newer albums sucks, they're too dance music. The older were more house, techno and acid music. Best album is definitely the Homework.

I know Jack Shit about techno/electronica and Jack left town, but I suggest Juno Reactor, some Techno Capoeira music, DJ Shadow (Organ Donor), and Future Sound of London (My Kingdom), Yuzo Koshiro (Main Theme Drum 'n' Bass Mix), The Terrible Mr. Grimshaw, Velvet Acid Christ, Systematic Shut Down, Wolfsheim (heroin, she said), Wench (Radio India), and Figaro (SnowingCairoBushyLadenmix - only song I can recommend from him so far though).

I've been listening to a lot of winamp radio stations that play techno/house, etc. Check out www.shoutcast.com Right on the main page they list some stations, and there should be one called Digitally Imported (well lots of them, for that matter) but there is one that says Europen Trance, Techno, HI-NRG...check that one out, I LOVE it.

Another good electronica band (ambient) is Future Sound Of London. Some might know them from the PSX-version of Wipeout 2 /2097.
