i recently discovered the Jdoom package on fileplant. i think its brilliant brigning back these games and making them even better.
Please assume i am a complete newbie to anything technical to do with computers :)
I have downloaded the most recent versions but i can only play the shareware version of doom1. I think its something about .WAD files
As i mentioned already i have absolutely no idea about anything like that. please can a kind member of the forums help me so i can play all those good old dooms and hexen too! :D
thanx loads! Anubi5

If you own the full retail version of Doom & hexen, what you need to do is install it to a temporary folder, then copy the Doom.wad or doom2.wad or hexen.wad to your doomsday folder (you can delete doom1.wad after that if you wish, thats the shareware version wad) you can then delete the temporary folder that you installed the original game to and run doomsday for the full on experience.. if you don't have your disks lying around anymore you can order some off id's site (www.id.com) or some distributors still have it in shops for dirt cheap (I got doom and doom2 for $10 all up)

Just the .wad (main IWAD files) If your version of the game is on CD you can just get it from that CD without installing the game. Just search for doom.wad, doom2.wad, hexen.wad...
If your game version is on 3.5 floppies, Install the game, as Felix said, and copy the .wad file to what ever folder jDooM is looking for it in. (I'm not up jdoom directories :p )

you can actually pretty much put it anywhere as kickstart will do an automatic search and glnode of the appropriate .wad file.. however /Doomsday/data/jdoom/doom(2).wad is the default

Thats my problem lol. I can search for the files and put them where they need to go.. it's just i didnt have the files in the first place.
So.. To play JDoom, JHexen and JHeretic again, like i used to all them years ago.. ahem.. i need to have the games in floppy or CD form right now? Well i dont have anything like that all i got was the kickstart downloader. Is there a website i can visit to get the files or do i have to search for, and buy the games?
One more thing you helpful people.... Can/DO people play these games online? (Being an online gamer myself for many years) :D
thanks. Anubi5

Doom, Heretic and HeXen are not abandonware, so you have to buy the game(s) to get the wads.
Though you can download the shareware versions of Doom1 and Heretic freely off many sites which will work with Doomsday.
