I found a wonderful bossback UI patch by Bestli here

I haven't seen that one in UI pack and that is why I post a link here..

Yes that is the one i made. I made it exact like the old one, and used the texturs from the retexturing project. But i dosn't look as good as the original bossback pic, so that's the reason why I don't use any replacement for the bassback pic!! ;)

That's just a resized original with a cheesy PSP/PS filter over it.

No it's not!! I used the texture from the retexturing project, and made it to look like exact as the original one!!!

IMO it looks identical to the retexturing project version. it hurts my eyes with that funky blue-red 3d effect happening.

how about something a little different instead of the same old-same old, remember variety is the spice of life.

A new version of Bossback is in the upcoming final release of the jDUI - so you'll soon be able to choose from a few Bossbacks (Khaveen did one also).

I thought I remembered doing this...

Ages ago I did a quick hi res version of the BOSSBACK patch to use in a wad I was making at the time. /Me runs off to find it...

I couldn't be arsed finishing it though, so what you see here is a crude 15mins job. Your all welcome to use it/finish it if you want.

What someone should do is try to redo this picture. Chilvence and Slide had some great success redoing those baron and archvile(???) wall pics. This is the same thing, only much bigger. Most of the stuff on the sides is just pipes and shit anyway. I believe those guys drew those out by hand. Another way to do it would be to actually go and make it in 3D then make a pic out of it (hell, one day a 3D version might be applicable).

and when its 3d, to be able to walk on his snout that would be cool

yer really making a new bosspack slide? Thats so friggen cool! I think it would be cool if the boss head were a model, what I think would be neat is if it had darker skin, glowing eyes and sharper teeth to look scarier but, I am jsut pulling these random thoughts out of thin air and it may nto look good either but, I am just throwing out suggestions.

My version, unsurprisingly, is based on my marble 'bossback'. This was one that me and Chiv didn't collaborate on but you can see the small version in the jDTP submission thread. Although I'm doing an all new version for the end of Evilution.

As for 3D decoration models I've been touting this for a while - but in one of the News forum alpha release threads Skyjake said this might finally be a possibility in 1.8.

*looks at end boss* is that borccoli in your teeth? *shoots hsi teeth with a bfg*

Who knows, maybe someone could create a fun demo of what a model would look like skinned inthe future for the end boss.

I started a few of the faces by sketching them out roughly on paper, and then shading them in corel with some layers. Slide later polished them so that they were much more accurate to the originals (I'm a pretty crappy draw-er, so that must have been some work *grin*)

I say this because I think it is the best way to go about re-creating the graphics in hi-res. The actual drawings I made were really bad, but served their most important function by being a guide for the brush on screen. Few people have the cash for a decent graphics tablet just to play around with it, but doing it the way I did it you can get pretty good results for much less dough. (a symbiotic relationship with your mouse does help though)

Now, when will people stop putting up filtered bumpmapped embossed resampled versions of the original graphics up? If the object was to get a full set of replacement hi-res graphics in zero seconds flat, then someone would have ran everything through the hq4x filter and made it a pk3. In fact the betas of ZDoomGL and jDoom do this much more elegantly by including the filter in the game itself! So soon this sort of stuff will be redundant.

ahem...
