Sorry to ruin some perfectly good space , but i was wondering what was the easiest way of changing the tech pillar skin to one from zabnats. I've got all the official packs , and i prefer that skin to the one supplied. ( nice hi-res ). Sorry to be a pain , but I can't seem to get it to work.

there aren't stupid questions, jsut stupid answers so you wont look like an idiot, just the guy answering your question will if he so chooses to be an ass.

I haven't seen Zabnats version so it depends - If they use the same underlying models you'll only have to swap the jDRP texture (pcx or png) for the new png otherwise you'll have to edit Zabnat texture so it lines up with the jDRP model texture - or swap the models i.e. in this case; easiest way is to pk3 it up and add it to the end of jDRP.DED that way it should overwrite the jDRP one.

Thanx for the prompt reply guys butyou misunderstood the question. The Zabnat pillar is a hi-res .png skin only , that's the problem. If there is no work around , then i shall wait for the next resource release and hope the pillar skin is updated.

Well just do the first thing I said if the textures are based off the same model. Unless you mean the Zabnat one is a sprite in which case there is little you can do except try and adapt the sprite to the jDRP texture.

No the zabnat skin is a hi-res .png , and if i try to convert it , i lose the alpha channel. Really surreal skin when you look at the pillars in the hangar (e1m1) in doom 1. Ah well , never mind. Thanks for the help guys.

Why would you lose the alpha channel? keep it as a PNG and it'll be fine.

Also why does it need an alpha channel? I thought it was a solid object. The only place I could imagine using an alpha channel is on the rings near the middle.

Why don't you show us this zabnat skin so we can see what you're trying to do?

It's ok , just stupidity at work (me). The skin is from the modelyard under the fallen man's links. It doesn't fit the resource model (i think) but i will endeavour to convert it anyway.

And now iv'e sorted the problem. I would show some screenies but i'm not allowed to post attachments on the forum. Anyone know why ? Thanx for the point in the right direction guys, I must have had a brain seizure yesterday !
