I just installed the demo of Unreal Tournament 2004. Man, this game is great! Finally they brought back the look and feel (even the music :-)) of the first UT!!! The weapons, the character design, ... everything is just UT! This is a must have!!!

hehe, I played the demo yesterday. So fun!!! I don't see any reason for me to buy the full version though. I get bored so easily after a few days of playing this kinda stuff, that the demo is good enough for me.
Looks and plays awesome though. Love it!

Well from the sounds of it, it sounds a lot better than Unreal 2. I played it and damn, it sucks. 3 vehicles!?!?!?!? And they blow up on the drop of a hat. And the funny thing is, I actually thought about buying it...

Um..the demo came with 5 of the 9 vehicles in the game. The only vehicles that blow up at the drop of a hat are the Manta and the Raptor, and thats to balance out the gameplay, because they are a couple of the best vehicles in the game. Anyways, the emphasis of the game isnt just about using vehicles, its about using the vehicles in key strategic places to stop attacks, or get from A to B faster than normal. In many cases its easier to pick off frags on foot than in a vehicle. For me, this is a must buy. Its the game that UT2003 shouldve been.

Oh yay! I'm totally a UT fan! And they brought the music, weapons, and character designs back? *jumps up and down* I need a hug right now ;)

They're not all the same, but definitely remind more of the first UT than UT2003! However, it rocks! Can't wait for the release (already ordered it)!!!

And the funny thing is, I actually thought about buying it... It isn't supposed to be a vehicles only game. Imagine how unbalanced it would be if the vehicles were really tough; there'd be hardly any advantages whatsoever to going on foot.
I think the vehicles are really fun to use - the special attacks like the buggy blades, and the manta squish are really original ideas, and awesome to use.

I'm talking about Unreal 2, not UT2004. Ahh, I didn't think Unreal2 even had vehicles, that's why I presumed you were talking about UT2004.

Yeah I took it that way too. Unreal 2 shattered my delusion that Epic coudnt internally damage the Unreal Franchise. Meh, UT2004 more than makes up for that loss IMO.

I just read that the UK version uf UT2004 will ship on 5 CDs (!!!) *burn* WTF?!?!?! Every other damn version is on DVD, even the cut german one! Only the UK version (which is the version I ordered, of course!) not!!! I hate that!!! *angry* There's little else which pisses me off like games on X CDs instead of a DVD!!! Grrrr, I just want to kick their asses for doing this!!! *meanie*

Whats the differnce between the US & UK version? Armor is armour (they use shields) anyway. And don't tell me the region codes are different.

Its that or 5 CD's. Thats too messy if you ask me. I'm a fan of legacy tech but you got to know your limits.

I canceled the order and made a new one, for the more expensive US version. But at least this one's on DVD. I feel better now. :)

What's wrong with 5 Cd's again? 2004 was on 4 and that installed fine. Heh.

Well you better forget about getting Deus Ex: IW. It comes on DVD.
Unreal II came on 3 CDs and UT 2003 also came on 3 and UT 2004 doesn't look all that different from UT 2003.

I'll get a DVD jobby when I really need to. Ok so UT2003 was on 3 CD's. I couldn't count them as my bro still has em. :p

I seem to recall being able to adjust the size of the weapons on you screen in the options somewhere... or was that the original UT?

i play the game in school during CADD Architecture, and it is pretty good. although not as good as quake 3, the graphics are smooth and the weapons are pretty. however, i think that the movemts are too slow, i would prefer they were quicker and that the running was faster too like in q3a
Pieter Enis
March 22nd, 2004, 02:42 PM
yes, that annoys me too, in the original UT i believe it was faster
iori
March 22nd, 2004, 03:11 PM
I like it better slow. Its more 'real' (if that means anything in a completely fictitious shooter).
SavageMessiah
March 29th, 2004, 10:08 AM
I think the slower running makes the game seem a little less frantic than Q3. Besides, if you want to run faster just kill some people and use adrenaline to speed up :). I'm just glad assault mode and the sniper rifle are back. I missed them. After I buy a new video card I'm torn between buying this, Far Cry, or Painkiller. Hmmmm......
iori
March 29th, 2004, 08:02 PM
Think of replay value. Painkiller will be a once-through for me.

I'm a big UT fan, as well. Didn't much care for UT2k3 but UT2k4 looks a lot better. The vehicles kind of remind me of Halo, but Halo sucks.

I must admit, I'm disappointed. I payed full price for something that could have been a mod! The differences between UT2003 and 2004 are so few... A new game mode and an old game mod added, some new characters and some new maps. That's it! And they still want the full price for it! This sucks!!!

its only 20$ if you send in the rebate from 2k3, and for 100+ maps, 20$ is not bad at all. Especially since some of the maps are returns to (recrafted) familiar locations from UT1.

Here in Germany you only get a 10 Euro rebate for the german version of UT2k, but I have the english one, since I don't buy cut german versions. So no special conditions for me :(

It's $39 dollars here and with the 15% sales tax its $45 dollars. I'll wait for it to come down a bit.

I got the demo installed yesterday. Now I've heard stuff about assault mode but this was better than anything I had heard. Amazing! Overdrive mode also rules too. It seems to run better than UT 2003 on my comp and with details up higher. The overdrive map available is so hughe and it runs easily. Better than some UT 2003 maps. The vehicles own me!! So many to choose from. While I wondered what was up with the weapon size, I found it could be adjusted from the stting menu. It seems Halo has finally met it's match IMO. It's the game I ahve to get before Far Cry.:D

Well I got it yesterday. A record because it takes me a while after getting a demo to be convinced it's worth buying. (this took one day:p) I bought the DVD edition, not that I had a choice though. All the shops that sell gamesthat come in DVD and CD-ROM versions alwasys sell the DVD editions. It comes on 1 DVD only.:D I would have bough Far Cry but I wasn't convinced it would last too long so I needed something to last me the next 2 weeks before I get bored to hell plus the UT 2004 demo ran slightly better than the Far Cry demo did with ocassional slowdowns but no crashes. Until I get it (which won't be until I get a job) I'll need to stick with the trailer. I love the final scene watching that moster lumbering down the corridor, cloaked in the fog. Seriously though, that game has such a predictable plot.

I've played UT2003 and 2004, but I still like the original UT best. I just can't get used to that stupid double-jump while playing the new version of the Morpheus map. The map itself is okay, but the double jump really ruins it.
At least you can turn it off and use the low grav mod to make it play like the original, but none of the online servers do that. :(

Damn, there should be a second DVD that contains tutorials on how to map for every aspect of the unreal engine. I would kill for that second DVD.

Well I just can't understand UnreaEd. Apparently you can get maya tutorials at college. That's the only way I'd like to learn about it, I couldn't understand anything but then I've had problems using 3D map editors all the time.

There is little difference in the 2003 and 2004 versions but I still like it, the new games, they are new to me as I haven't played the first UT game, are fun, mutant is a bit easy though, pretty much as soon as I become the mutant then I survive right to the end and I get all my frags in one go.
