ive been having a lot of trouble deciding which i should get doom 3 for, xbox or computer. I mean, my computer and i have had a lot of history together with doom, and to me it might feel better on the computer. But what about the xbox version, i love xbox and i think that the source port will be great on it. the spex on my computer might not be the best either, so that might be another reason to get it for xbox. which should i get it for, comp or xbox? someone help me because i hate decisions

comp spex:
2.66 Ghz Pentium IV
512 Mb DDR DIMM RAM
im not sure what my video card is, nor would i be able to tell if it were good or not
60 Gb hard drive
DVD ROM

if you need anymore information to evaluate my pc, ask.

Although I may be the only Xbox fan around here, I'd say get it for the PC. Those specs are far beyond the Xbox and you'll have a better framerate. Your card should be at least a GeForce 3. Other than that, your specs are beyond the minimum requirements and there's nothing to worry about.

I'd say PC just because it means you play with a mouse and not a controller. Or did they make a mouse for the X-Box? I never keep up to date with console stuff.

I'll just say PC since, as most of you've seen, I'm highly against consoles if we're not talking about arcade games.

The controller is one thing, then there is the fact that Xbox is getting old for games like DooM. I still can't stop laughing to ps2 for that Max Payne conversion! BWAHAHAHAHAAH!!!!

Definitely PC for me. I prefer all of my FPSs on PC. Most other games, other than simulators, I prefer on console.

You know what? I have the same problem deciding. You'd think the release of an Xbox screenshot would help me, but it doesn't. I have a computer that can run it no problem, but the draw of cooperative play (which has been confirmed) on the Xbox version may be just too tempting. I think I'll just wait for reviews to come out.

Screenshots don't matter. I'd get the Windows version, well, you can't make mods/maps for Xbox games can you? :P

So it's Pc for me.

PC definitely. You will definitely get a better feeling to Doom 3 in a PC than an XBox. Your PC should run it no problem at all, as long as you have a decent video card.

Only FPS that was any good on a console was Metroid Prime for gamecube. Anything else like MoH was too hard to control.

Never thought about it that way - but there's my answer. Really, there's no reason to get the Xbox version that I can see if your PC can handle the real thing - unless the coop play is Xbox exclusive, which I don't know.

Not exbox exclusive, it will just be much more social with everyone in the same room sharing the same screen.

Id say get the PC version, or at least if you do get the console version, avert your eyes from the internet because the mods will probably make your eyes bleed :)

PC version all the way! Buying the Xbox version and not being able to play the D3 mods would be a major bummer. Heh

I don't even have an Xbox & I believe my comp is up to the challenge, so it's PC for me.

I need the mods. Without the mods, I am nothing. PC all the way.

I forgot all about the mods. If ID doesn't release an expansion pack that is a remake of DooM 2, the modding people would definitely make one. Can't get that on an XBox.

IMO, the image is WAY better on the pc judging from that screen. I never liked console FPS games much either with the exception of Metroid Prime, but that was at a friends house, and the only console systems we have are PS2 and Atari (lol). Besides, like they said, MODS! They make the world go round. Just think what UT would be like without them, and then imagine something as godly as D3 WITH them... I dont know if my comp can handle it or not (probably can...) but either way, its gotta be better on the comp. Besides, you can always upgrade a pc (if you have money), but you cant realy upgrade the xbox.

I wonder if a free copy of the Ultimate Doom comes with Doom 3? Then It'll be just like RTCW lol. As for me, its mods all the way, maybe some of the greatest megawads could be recreated for Doom 3. As for me however, I'd love to see Hexen III, a remake of the original using the Doom 3 game engine.

Message to Id: Just finish the game!!!

You people are overlooking something here. It's possible to play mods on the Xbox. Someone will make a map editor for the game (some people already made a few for Halo). And all you have to do is FTP and load it to the Xbox's hard drive. Then some more complicated stuff after that. But it's better to get a bigger hard drive for that kind of thing. So the console gamers can have just as much fun as the PC gamers. Hell, there's a program called Aquaduct that let's console gamers join in with the PC gamers. It's been done with Halo, why not with Doom 3?

I had that thought! Not that itt matters since I have The Doom Collector's Edition!

A Hexen or Heretic III would be awsome! I dont think it'll happen, but its possible someone would make a mod that would do essentialy that!

yeah, but how many mods do you have on XBOX compared to computer?

The answer is not pretty.

XBOX aint got Sh^t on the computer.

Very true. Well, XBOX fans, put it this way:

XBOX = No tools

Yup, that little thing will suck the xbox version of Doom 3 to nothing. No tools to create levels, mods, player models, textures.............that would totally suck

So all i can say is "PC ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!"

End of story

I would go with pc.... playing FPS's on console games is like trying to weld 2 pieces of metal together witha lighter, its just not fun and it takes a long time (to get used to). I hate FPS games on consoles, they sucka nd I can't believe in RtCW I got my @$$ killed by a nazi when I couldn't aim on the first level on the first guy. Personally pc's are mroe expandable, faster, have more quality, more control more features, able to handle more, are easier to use (without that clunky controler and all those buttons to memorize). Not only that but if you get bored with playing the original levels you can install a mod or change stuff yourself.

You guys are obviously oblivious to the fact that there are in fact tools for the Xbox that let's you mod some games like Halo and a few others. Personally, I could give 2 shits less about modding. I buy a console and an FPS of my choice to have a good time and not worry about hackers trying to steal my shit online. And I have to really laugh at your comment Tyberious, you getting killed by a nazi on the first level?!?!? Damn, no wonder why you hate FPSs on consoles. You just don't have the skills to operate with 2 analogs.

It's hardly like the mods you describe are very expansive though, Hyperflash. On a computer, you buy a good FPS game, and you'll basically get the game's monetary worth over and over again, as new levels, mods and TC's get released.

yes, but xbox has a feature that no other console has had before, downloadable content. so essentially, if enabled, xbox owners will be able to get the same, or almost the same, updates as a pc owner will. i also love my xbox and the fps that i own; like halo, unreal championship, and mechassault(if that can be called one), and soldier of fortune II. that being said, i still think that the pc is a better fps outlet and i will also buy Doom III for the pc. besides, im too lazy too mod anyway.

I know you can download stuff, and it's a great feature, but that still isn't equivalent to having such a large array of mods to choose from. There is a much large modding community for the PC versions of games, and therefore more mods.

I know it doesn't have the moddable features as a PC. But I wouldn't pay up to $3000 just to have a good gaming experience. You guys can say whatever you want, but I'll stick with FPSs on my console and I'll have the best times with my friends on Xbox Live.

for $400 you could probably get a computer that could run all modern games FARILY well...it may not be top notch, but if you searched around, you could find parts for a computer at a reasonable price, and once you have a bassic machine, you can upgrade later. You dont have to go to some company and buy there over priced machines. I'm not saying that you should, and $400 is still a lot...how much did you spend on the xbox?

ARMYguy

The x box = machine that plays games. The PC = machine that plays games + surfing the web + doing your work + talking on AIM + making things + many many many many many more things that makes it better. PCs dont have to cost 3000 to do all these things.

Get used to the downloadable content for now because XBox2 is going solid state (prolly Compact Flash). M$ will prolly cheap out use 256mb sticks which might mean a couple of new levels can fit after you put the dashboard and XBox Live in.

The ONLY thing about the xbox that would be better than pc is that compatability is asured. Because of the fact that its sol purpose is to play the games made for, it does its job well. However, if you have a good computer, which in todays world isnt hard, then compatibility isnt an issue, AND you get all the other bonuses!

im not sure what my video card is, nor would i be able to tell

To check your video card:
Click Start, Click RUN, Type DXDIAG in the box and click OK, when the window pops up click the DISPLAY tab, and see what the name of your video card is. Tell me what the name says and me and the others here should be able to tell you if it is good enough or not :)

Wouldnt it just be easier to right click on the desktop, go to properites...and wehn the windo pops up then click on display? I mean realy, that sounded WAY TO complicated when it could be easier. You can then go to advanced and see even more details on your vid card! It doesnt show all of the same stuff, but it will tell you what adapter you have and what not...

Anyone here read todays article from gamestop? Says x box is gong to include an exclusive co-op mode...ITS NOT FAIR! I dont have an x box, and I aint about to go speand x amount of money on an x box, just so I can enjoy co-op mode! Them and there stupid marketing. You people that have an x box are luchky...but the rest of us...yeah. It would be pointless for me and other people in the same situation to go out and by an x box just so we can have that mode, but it DOES sound like fun. Thats something I miss from the old days of gaming...co-op...working together to defeat the enemy. Its stupid not letting the computer users have that mode. I know its for marketing, but over all, the computers gonna be better anyways... What does everyone else think of it...
