whats SvStrife? SvStrife is a source port/emulator for Strife. Since the source code was lost, I've decided to re-create the code myself (with a little help from Janis).

SvStrife will support almost all of Strife features and the conversation system will be implented as well.

As of now, no enemies are completed, 80% of the objects are done, all weapons/ammo behaviors are done and also some of Strife's linedef types are completed. One of them is the Force Field triggers and the two flags for the linedefs , Transparent and Jumpover have been implented as well.

This source port is based upon Prboom, which already contains the mf_friend flag for the Rebels and the bounce flag for the grenades, which makes things a lot easier.

I won't promise anything out of this port, this is still an experemental project and I could give up on it, but I haven't lost hope yet ;)

Since SvStrife won't support scripts, everything including special dialogs will be hardcoded, so shopkeeps etc won't be customizable.

here are some screenshots of Strife being emulated under Windows 2000

WOW !!! Vavoom Strife now SvStrife - the more the merrier. :)

I'll definately be following this one too. :D

Kaiser - will yours support GLvis ?

Will Risen3D also support this or will SvStrife just use it's own engine?

GLVIS is used by Vavoom for the lightmaps, the quake-style lighting. As Kaiser said, this is based upon PrBoom, and looks to be software only, so if your looking for doomsday-pretty, you might want to wait for the vavoom port.

That said however, I think it looks good as it is, and Hi-Res is a blessing from the 320x200 that im used to for it atm. Im really looking forward to this.

PS, its good to see the flamethrower working properly too, looks like it would be hard to do, given that the flames rise up off the surface/mobj that it hits...

It's been a good while since I last played Strife with sounds. So I'm looking forward to future releases of Strife source ports!

Just remember to back up that source code on a separate machine, medium, online, or something. ;Þ

I've choosen software because Strife's pallete just makes the scenery much more attractive. GL mode won't help much.
But there will be a gl port included since Prboom already has a gl code written.

Vavoom uses a complete new code, Prboom's code is more closer to the oringinal Doom source, so porting svstrife's code to Legacy or Doomsday shouldn't be that difficult ;)

Making the flames rise was quite easy (can't believe zdoom nor vavoom has this!) Trying to figure out to make them rise at random speeds was tough.

The conversation will be easy, I hope. The whole thing will use Doom's menu system, and the certain dialogs will be based upon what mapxx the player is in.

Also, making the hubs will be challeging as well.

Will you, or have you, informed Janis and Randy of this ?

A news post on Newdoom's front page saysKaiser Announces SvStrife Port

First of all, I want to say there is no download or site to check out for this news item but felt it such interesting news that it deserved mentioning. Kaiser sent us an email to announce that the first experimental build of SvStrife, a Win32 source port re-creating the doom-based game Strife, will be released on the Ides of March. This build will include all functional weapons, sliding doors, and more. Now we have to wait until March... Meanwhile you can always head over to DSV Outworld and gather a few Doom maps from Kaiser's site.

Very promising, kais!

Of course, I've had the liberty to test it so I know just how promising it really is :P

Agent Spork, is your avatar a type of those Hildebears from Phantasy Star Online?

Hey Kaiser, i'm really happy to read that you are working on a port for Strife and what makes me even more happier is that it wouldn't be to hard to port svstrife to legacy and doomsday:D

Keep the good work up Kaiser, i really am looking forward to see this in action:D

Looks promising, I hope that Strife is ported to Doomsday in the near future.

BTW: Will a scripted bersion be easy to make if it was ported to Doomsday? It would make modding Strife a much easier (and enjoyable) experience.
