...To upload your own avatar image? I haven't got any websites around so the URL thing wouldn't work for me...

No, you have to have it uploaded to a website first. Just sign up for something like at angelfire. I signed up a whole new angelfire account, just so I could upload pictures to.

Or ask someone around here to upload a picture for you and then you can take that address and plop it into the avatar addy box.
