I like the front of the gun, but the back looks all wrong and plain. Still a good looking gun though.

hell yeah!!! I like the back and front of the plasma gun but that is not what it originally looks like if you look at the sprite, it does look plain but, I like it. Also could we do this with md3 support? I like the new doomguy and the jdrp doomguy as well as the soltiers don't have enough detaila dn look too flat to me, I perfer chivs soldiers but, that is just me but the jdrp is damn good! I like what I am seeing, keep em rollin'. :)

DaJuice has said before, that these models have excessive amounts of polies and that he doesnt intend to make them work with jDoom. They are really good, you should also see his baron (absolutely stunning btw), but I can tell just by glancing at them that they would be impossible to use in jdoom. That doomguy probably has 50 times the polies the current one does.

Be nice if he actually skinned 'em. Just think, in about 36 months or so we'll be able to handle that. :)

Uhm, I'd like to know: What's with the clip in the back of the plasma rifle? As far as I know, it doesn't use bullets and energy cells don't function in the same way as bullets do...

r these from Doom ]|[ or from a jDRP? *confused*

they look like meta-nurb subpatched models, nice.. could do with even some quick procedurel spec and enviroment maps though

meta-nurb?
and where did they originate from? it looks like they were made in Maya3D or something.

i think hes refurring to NURBS surfaces... really slow really nice-looking really smooth curves :)

most decent modelling programs can do Nurbs patching. If he hasnt used it then I am impressed

I would tend to agree.
Considering how many polys he's probably using I would have expected a LOT more detail.
Also has anyone else noticed his fingers are tiny? It makes him look like an eight year old :D

I want to see the baron, I searched but I haven't seen his pics. Is there a link of all his works?
EDIT: Call me weird or whatever you want but I much perfer Dani's models over this guy's models. Danis are more effecient, a hell of a lot less painful on the graphics card and just plain beautiful (and actually have textures).

i searched too, but couldn't find any pix of the Baron or any other of the monsters.

Somehow I doubt every one of you legally owns a really nice modelling program... ;)

well i would own a legal version if i had around 8,000 or so nz dollars.

I would tend to agree...they may not be as smooth or anything like that, but Dani's models have more life to them...those just look kinda dull and lifeless...although some decent textures would solve that, but the framerate is definately another issue...
Didnt he make that 8000+ poly tree that someone posted in another thread??? It probalby looked the best out of all of them...
has anyone here seen the Unreal engine 3 trail...they showed a scene...an outdoor scene of some complex structers, and said that the entire thing was around a million polies but it was actually made with hi-res stuff that totalled 200 mil + polies!
If anyones interested I can post a link to somewere you can download it...

See for yourself! This stuff is unbelievable! They have some good ideas in here, and although doomsday probably doesnt support any of these features, I think there is potential for future features...ways to increase the quality oof models without sacrificing as much frame rate.
'course their idea in this video of "low-res" for a monster is like BIG POLY COOUNT

Nicely modelled by that guy. But in this model you can clearly see that it's mesh has been smoothed;)

It's normally the case that any modellers who do CGI only never worry about the poly count. And tend to have big problems at very low polycounts.
With modern engines having the benefit of normal maps it's expected that the same artist creates both the low poly in-game version and the high poly normals model.
What I tend to find (on polycount and other art forums) is that modellers who go from low poly upwards almost always produce better, cleaner and more character filled models. Low poly modelling is very disciplined.
Not that they arn't nice models (I especially like the Baron's head) but they are very, very wastefull polywise. If I had aound 2500 polys to play with I could create a baron that looked every bit as smooth as that (and with a decent skin a hell of a lot more detailed).
Once Doomsday allows for seperate models for LOD (and probably 2/3 more levels) then there is no reason why all models can't have a 2000 poly close up version. Plus Doomsday 2.0 will probably allow for normal-mapped models.
Once we're at that stage then anything becomes possible.

yeah and you will need a massively powered graphics card to handle all those high polies not to mention a damn good system to prevent bottlenecks.

It would be really nice if jDoom could handle all of those polygons. Suggesting you have a top end computer.

I like this version now, not only is it beautiful. Anyone with a machine can play it without having the best machine. Almost everyone wins.

That Baron has 3 nostrils *crazy*
Wouldn't it be nice if we could have a baron that looks like this that doesn't have many polys?

And a Cyberdemon that looks like this?
