The Darkness
"I Believe In A Thing Called Love"

It's hilarious! *crazy*

Are these guys the successors to Queen's long lost and lamented throne?

lol that songs awesome. Finally someone brings back the revered '80's hair metal...without the metal. And the guys voice! Apparently theyre huge in Europe.

Exactly! The guy's vocal range is just beyond belief, without it sounding annoying.
And the best thing about this band, IMO as far as I can tell, is they don't seem to take themselves too seriously; in fact, that seems to be the point, with all the exaggerated 70's/80's rock star posing. Granted, I never liked 80's big-hair metal, and had not heard of The Darkness before seeing their video just earlier today, but they seem to have the chops to back up their very tongue-in-cheek attitude.

PS - Hah! Whatayaknow, there IS a Queen connection! Check it out (http://www.thedarknessrock.com/images/brianmay/).

Well I think their style is great, although I havn't heard any of their music other than "I believe in a Thing Called Love", they have just the thing to draw the public eye IMO, and have already done so overseas.

The darkness annoy me. They have become massive because Kerrang magazine told everyone of the mindless zombies that read it that the darkness are the best thing since sliced bread.
They are an annoying parody of a good thing that died a long time ago, and they write annoying music. The lead singer is the ugliest abomination in existence, and the other members aren't much better. One of them even has a porno 'tache! Just my opinion, rant over.

My favourite video at the moment is Groove is in the heart, by d-lite. Classic, and funny.

Mine is Type O Negative's "I Don't Wanna Be Me". It rocks, it's funny, it makes fun of "artists" like Eminem and Spears... very good combination.

Mind you, I hate Type O Negative; along with The Smiths, they've caused me endless arguments with my girlfriend. It just seems rather a wasted effort in my mind, to spend money opting to take the piss out of something else instead of creating something.... more original. Parody is derivative, after all.

Comedy music videos aren't often worthwhile in my mind, and comedy bands even less.

I have to say, I hate Type O Negative. And I've never actually heard The Darkness. I've heard of them, but havent' heard them. Why? I haven't watched MTV in over two years. All they play is crap, when they actually decide to play videos that is.

I wish I could give the title of my favorite video, but I never found out what it was, or who did it. All I know is that it left a lasting impression on me. It has this guy walking out in the middle of a four lane street in a tunnel. He gets hit by a few of the cars, pretty hard. Finaly, near the end of the song, he stands tall, stretches his arms out, and another car smashes into him, and shatters like it just ran into the side of a mountain. That was the coolest thing I've ever seen. I have a feeling it was a Radiohead video, if that helps anyone.

It's got Thom Yorke singing, so I see the Radiohead connection.

Thank you, Fluffy. My mind is at ease now. :) I went and watched it again, and I still like it. Good stuff.

The Darkness scare me. Oh, and they can't hold a candle to Queen. They should stop trying. :p

lol DD.

They should. Glad to see someone else agrees with me, again. I was looking for some resistance here, but once again no-one stood against my opinion, no matter how unfounded it was. Kinda nice to know that.

Just wanted to mention: Type O Negative is no comedy band. I'd agree, although after hearing some songs, reading some interviews and lyrics I wouldn't take them so seriously. The Darkness are though.

I would say they're sarcastic and ironic, but no comedy. And their music is very dark. That's why they are often called "The gods of dark metal".
I never heard "The Darkness". I think I have to pay the local cd-dealer a visit tomorrow... I just love dark music!

No! Don't look for the darkness. They will come and bash your door down and burst yuor eardrums. T-o-n are very good, they just felt like having a laugh with the video , that's all.

I remember Pete Steele saying he was going to kill himself (or die, one or the other - it was a few years ago) at the same age as Jesus. I just couldn't take him seriously after that. And I find the lyrics candyfloss dark - overdone, with no subtlety and too much predictable language.

Lyrics which genuinely have a darker edge are more artfully written in my opinion, and are not as caricatured.

Me again. Some of the songs from the CD didn't get out of my head any more. So I had to get the album, although the volcals aren't my style. Well, you get used to them... :D

The darkness infect your neural system using subliminal messages that are hidden in the high frequency noises in the vocals. They are going to take over the world!

Latest vid, Crashing around you - machine head.

They are going to take over the world! Oh. Well... I don't mind, as long as they keep on rocking! And better those than any casted "superstar" teenie combo or Britney Spears wannabes!

But britney spears has one thing that the darkness will never have. Titties! Or maybe a lower vocal range.

But britney spears has one thing that the darkness will never have. Titties! Or maybe a lower vocal range. I don't care about Britney's titties. I can't stand her, and I know many women with more interesting "features" than this dumbass-hop-around has. So let one of them take over the world. :D

Haha! If so then I must be deaf to these messages in the high frequency vocals. Anyway there are singers with higher pitched voices and sound far better than the Darkness singer.
Bah the only time I get to see music videos is on CD/DVDs that the bands release I don't have cable, satellite or digital TV here or at my proper home with my family so I miss out on that a lot. :(

Ok, you want the lowdown on satellite? You know when you are sitting at home, and you can't find anything good to watch? Satellite is similar, only you have 900 channels to skip through instead of four or five. God bless sky tv and all that sink upon her!
