If you used the patch, its still working with your keys (+ and - by default) but if you want to zoom with scrollwheel, reconfigure it. If you used the install, its already set to your scrollwheel, again, if you dont like it, reconfigure it.

its really strange. i tried messing with things in the configuration, but they still didn't work. not even with the + - buttons and arrows. i downloaded the full install and things worked fine again. hope it was just me

I am having a hell of a time trying to use this editor. Nothing is working :(
I can build sectors and edit them just fine. I can add starting points and all that stuff and play a simple room just fine.
But when I try to split the sector or join two sectors together I get huge problems. Like graphical errors and voidspace leaks in from nowhere????
I'm so confused :(

strange, DoomBuilder is one of the easier editors out there. Go complain to CodeImp

bad nodes maybe?

bad nodes maybe?
No, I used the node checker thing. Everything looks fine in the 3d mode of the editor.
Do you got aim or msn? I need to talk to a pro or something... I'm so confused.

This may sound obvious but are the sectors you mentioned closed?
Have you got stitch vertices enabled.
Failing that, try downloading wadauthor or deepsea for their error checking facilities.

I am so perplexed by this. I always start and end on the same vertice. Making sure that if I'm going over an existing linedef, that I'm covering all of those vertices too.
I know that all of my sectors are closed, and yet I still have huge problems. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's so random. It's upsetting me :(
What happens I'm guessing is that somehow the sectors get "unclosed" and then I get the blurry effect on the walls that technically aren't there in the game but show up fine in the 3d mode of the editor.
If anybody can help me, my AIM is dissentone . I'd greatly appreciate any help!

Well I'm learning as I go here. I have just learned that you cannot apparently add vertices to already existing linedefs. I would of thought the editor would be able to do that? Or maybe I did something wrong again.
I used to make maps for Duke3d extensively, so I know my way around, but its just these small little differences that keep throwing me through a loop. HELP ME!!! *
*ok now I'm just whining.
EDIT - Is the fact that I'm using Ultimate Doom make any differnce? When I setup the editor, I selected "Doom" as the game I was going to use wads from because when I picked "ulimate doom" it gave me an error. ???

Try drawing all your sectors in a clockwise direction. That usually gets rid of errors. Doom Builder trys to make it so you can do it both directions, but idk how it works.

Ok. I looked at it. It's fine.
There's nothing wrong with it that I can see.
The nodes were built, the linedefs were fine and facing the right way, the sidedefs were fine and referenced correctly. The sectors were closed.
No missing textures, etc.
I couldn't find anything wrong with it at all.
Are you trying to load it up in DM mode? That might be an issue; since there are no DM starts yet. But other than that, it's fine.

?
Oh boy. How do I go about loading up the map correctly? All I'm doing to playtest the level is adding it to my Doom kickstart profile for JDoom. And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Codeimp, I think we have a problem.

You can add vertices to a line afterwards. If I remember correctly (haven't touched DB in a month) a right click on the line will split it and insert a new vertice. It kinda sounds like you might have duplicate vertices if your drawing everything right and your still getting errors. Not sure tho..
[edit] Nevermind .... if Tolwyn says the map is fine then Im sure its fine.
I have DB set to launch the JDoom Launcher instead of JDoom itself. That way I can change the launcher settings and then launch my wad. In Doom Builder press F5 to get the config box, click the testing tab, and browse for the Kicks.exe in the Engine box. Try that and see if that helps.

So, now what do I do? Perhaps I need to stop using Doom 1? I'm only using Doom 1 at the moment because I can't find my Doom 2 disk. I did order a new copy from idsoftware.com and that should be here next week. Could there be a problem with my copy of Doom Builder? Everything seems fine in the properties menu... btw I'm using version 1.50
I appreciate all the feedback so far though, you guys are great. I just hope to get to the bottom of this...

An update on my situation.
For some reason it's all working now... what did I do differently? I'm using Doom2 instead. And I can load up everything fine in Zdoom and play them. So right now, I'm pretty happy :)
Now I just wish Doom_Dude would finish his tutorial ;)

Doom Builder trys to make it so you can do it both directions, but idk how it works.
Usually (from DEU onwards) drawing sectors clockwise created the lindefs pointing in. Counterclockwise drew them pointing out.

so you got it working? good for you! i wonder what the problem is...maybe the ultimate doom config has gone wacky for some reason. after all, there aren't a whole lot of people mapping for doom 1 so it just may have not been noticed before.

i can be found at bomberman9000@hotmail.com. I'm not really a pro, i'm still at the stage of experimenting with bits and bobs and seeing what works well and what doesn't.

It's a sign of great integrity when you figure something out yourself instead of sitting helplessly on your ass while you wait for responses. Good job man!
