I was wondering if there were any fans of the Half Life series? I just brought the Platinum version for the first yesterday and I can now say I'm a fan. I was also wondering of any good mods or levels or any good for Half Life.

I was also wondering of any good mods or levels or any good for Half Life. Oh there's millions. They Hunger series, Poke 646, (thanks DD) Todesangst. Therre's loads. A great deal of them are on filepplanet.com, so you may want to try there.

Yep I always mention Poke646 whenever anybody asks about Half-Life mods. Todesangst is anouther good one like ToXic said. I have Todesangst2 here in a 'to burn' folder so I assume I liked it. lol Its been awhile since I played. Here is the Poke646 site: http://www.poke646.com/
Also check out USS Darkstar which is done by the same guy who did the They Hunger mods. Also theres a mod called The Long Night which was pretty good too. Yeah, ummmmm you should be able to get the They Hungers and Uss Darkstar and The Long Night off this page: http://www.planethalflife.com/complex/reviews.shtm Otherwise do a serach in Google and you should be able to find the downloads. :) Annoying you have to have a gamespy id to download off of Fileplanet but it's worth trying. I've been downloading Morrowind mods off Fileplanet via Morrowind Summit and I've had no wait times and all downloads were very quick.... Maybe Summit has some magic connection but.......... gotta run...

For Singleplayer Mods, try these out:
Azure Sheep, POV (awesome), Heart of Evil, Peaces Like Us, Redemption (Has a cool theme park in it!), ETC2 (but don't even touch ETC1), Kosovo 2000 and Kosovo II: The Second Day. Then the ones the other guys said, Poke 646, They Hunger, etc. There are a lot good ones. I especially liked POV because it turns the tables; you play one of the aliens during the invasion.
I map for half-life as well. Perhaps if I finally finish one, you'd like to check it out?

One good mod fo half life is also "Wanted!". It takes you to wild west and it feels as you'd be really in some western movie just deciding what weapons does the hero use to kill the baddies ;)!

I thoroughly enjoyed half life. I haven't played the add-ons yet. It's on my to-do list. Just under rule civilisation.

Oh, and if you ever want to play MP, Natural Selection is really fun. I would reccommend CS, but it's frankly not all that great. I don't know why everyone loves it so much. It's kind of sad when people need a reason to run around shooting each other. Whatever happened to senseless violence?

I'd recommend Half-Life as a must play to anyone. Like another game I'd recommend (Doom), it's a crucial step in the FPS genre and after playing it, you can see how it influenced the genre and had a major part in steering it towards what it is today.

I don't want to see things that way. Sure I like Half life but I would say Quake 2 as a crucial step in FPS genre. Well, it's probably because I'm not a real half life fan, but DooM and Quake series (without quake 3, I never liked it :(, games like that just aren't my style) I really like! We all have our opinions, here's mine!

We all have our opinions, here's mine! I would dispute that Q2 had as much influence on the genre. Whether it was a better game or not is moot, but Half Life certainly had a much bigger influence. Quake2 was a slightly different formula for ID, with the objectives and hub-oriented level design, but overall it wasn't a particularly innovative game in single-player.
Multiplayer was a different matter, Q2 really opened up online play; the netcode was unparalleled at the time and it took ages for the game's most apparent competitor, Unreal, to get patched up to anywhere near the same level of efficiency. Another point I must concede, is that we have Q2 to thank for the railgun - which has become one of those iconic FPS weapons in it's powerful, but slow as shit way.

I've heard a lot of people describe Quake 2's single player as being "lackluster", "unintuitive", and many other things along those lines. But I, for one, really enjoyed it! "Big Gun" is one of my all time favorite FPS levels, for reasons I can no longer remember or explain ;)

I loved playing through Quake II in single player. However the Big Gun level was kinda short... I was expecting a huge complex. Heh

Big Gun was REALLY short - and it really took me by surprise. Maybe that's part of the reason I loved it.

I got Half-Life before Christmas, got it off of a freind. I played it a bit, got bored of the glitches (It was practically the first version that hit the shelves (most annoying was getting stuck in a lift at a loading screen).
I then went back to it, and deleted all my old save games (I always do this when I start again) and completed it in just under eight hours. I have to say, that I liked it, but I won't play it again. The closest thing to it that I've played since, is Day of Defeat, but I found that it was spoilt by the crudeness of the Half Life game engine (bushes were just lines, texture quality was just too low for my liking).
I have to admit, that I liked Half-Life, but I like Unreal better, and I like Quake 2 better than that, and Doom better than that.

Whenever I get a new game the first thing I do after install is look for a patch.
Half-Life is an awesome game. I do have some issues with it tho. The one thing I thought was missing with HL was secret areas. I also don't like crawling through air-ducts to get from one area to anouther. I think it's overdone and kinda dumb. How the heck would you fit inside an airduct with all that weaponry and what are the chances the air duct would just happen to be going in the right direction? You'd probably end up inside a furnace or stuck someplace where the head-crabs would chew your ankles off. lol

In the Platinum Ed, on the Blue Shift disc, theres a High Def Pack. It replaces all the human models and the HUD weapons.

Half-Life 2 is going to be neat because it supposedly has much better graphics than HalfLife 1.

I really like HL, it's in my TOP 30 games.Note the high def pack is really excellent...
its only problem is difficulty,it's really too easy..
But Quake & HL are not comparable, it's a totaly diferent universe...
